A.INDIVIDUAL ITEMS

 
  1. Personnel Appointments (Mrs. Hart)
 
The certified and classified personnel presented have been screened by the Human Resources Department and interviewed, and/or approved by the Principal or supervisor for each location.
 
  1. Update Organizational Chart in Policy CCA Organization Chart, First Reading (Mrs. Hart)
 
Policy CCA presents the organizational chart for the district administration beginning with the office of the Superintendent. Policy CC Administrative Organization states that “The chart (Organization Chart) represents the framework for administration and the lines of authority and responsibility. Within the framework established, each school will be encouraged and free to work out the educational program most appropriate for itself.”
 
 
  1. Changes to Policy GCC Professional Staff Leaves and Absences and Policy GDC Support Staff Leaves and Absences, First Reading and addition of Administrative Rule GCC-R (2) Professional Staff Paid Parental Leave and GDC-R (2) Support Staff Paid Parental Leave (Mrs. Hart)
 
Policies GCC and GDC establish the basic structure for all types of professional and support staff leaves and absences.On May 12, 2023, Governor Henry McMaster signed into law S.11, which added Section 8-11-151 and added Section 8-11-156 of the South Carolina Code of Laws to provide six weeks of paid leave at one hundred percent of the eligible state employee’s base pay or two weeks of paid leave at one hundred Percent of the eligible state employee’s base pay depending on the qualifying event.
 
Qualifying events include the birth of a newborn biological child to an eligible state employee or after a co-parent’s birth of a newborn child or fostering a child in state custody or the initial legal placement of a child by adoption.To qualify for Paid Parental Leave (PPL.), the adoption, birth or foster care placement must occur on or after June 26, 2023.
 
  1. Revision of the following policy:  Policy IJK Supplementary Materials Selection and Adoption, First Reading.
 
Policy IJK Supplementary Materials Selection and Adoption provides guidance for supplemental educational materials that support the educational program.
 
 
 
 
 

B.CONSENT ITEMS:  The following items will be voted on as a group, individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken.

 
  1. Ratification of Expulsions (Mr. Laurence)
 
The School Board according to the Code of Laws for South Carolina Section 59-63-240, is authorized to expel students from school.Although the Board may receive recommendations for expulsion from others, it solely is empowered to take the final expulsion action.
 
  1. South Carolina School Boards Association Dues (Mr. Laurence)
 
Over the past years, the Aiken County Board of Education has purchased membership in the South Carolina School Boards Association.In addition to membership benefits, the Association provides a policy update service and legal assistance fund. Also included is an annual policy maintenance and Internet subscription fee.
 
  1. Out-of-District Transfer Requests – Transfers In (Dr. Minolfo)
 
Board Policy JFAB allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students.The policy stipulates that non-resident students transfer into the District “the parent/legal guardian must assume responsibility for transportation.The Board will nonresident students to the behavioral and academic requirements set out in policy JFAA admission of resident students. The district may charge tuition to nonresident students seeking to enroll in district schools.”
 
  1. Out-of-District Transfer Requests – Transfers Out (Dr. Minolfo)
 
Board Policy JFABC allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students.The policy stipulates that when students transfer out of the district, “the School District of Aiken County shall assume no responsibility for tuition to the receiving district.”
 
 
  1. Request to Admit Foreign Exchange Students (Dr. Minolfo)
 
School Board Policy JFABB establishes guidelines for the submission of the exchange students to the high schools in the School District of Aiken County.
 
 
  1. Sertoma Club of North Augusta Donation to Aiken County Public School District Department of Student Services – FY24 (Dr. Murphy)
 
The Sertoma Club of North Augusta has donated $7,000.00 to the Aiken County Public School District – Department of Student Services for the purchase of hearing screening equipment.These devices will be made available to school nurses to be used as needed.
 
 
  1. Items to be Declared Surplus and Method of Disposal (Mr. Traxler)
 
Miscellaneous school furnishings and equipment have been screened and determined to be obsolete and no longer of use to the District.Board approval is requested for the disposal of these items (ACPSD Procurement Code Article 15 Supply Management Sections 3810 and 3820).
 
  1. Demolition of the Old Ridge-Spring Monetta Elementary/Middle School (Dr. Murphy)
 
Bids were received for the Demolition of the Old Ridge-Spring Monetta Elementary/Middle School on May 31, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. and publicly opened.
 
 
 

C.INFORMATIONAL ITEMS:  The following items are for information only and do not require Board Action.

 
  1. Facilities Construction Department Quarterly Change Order Notification (Dr. Murphy)
 
Policy FGG sets the limit of approval for construction change orders by the Superintendent or designee up to $15,000.00. The policy requires a summary of such change orders to be presented to the Board at least once a quarter for notification.
 
  1. Construction Status Report for the Aiken High Auditorium School Project (Dr. Murphy)
 
In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, LS3P Associates LTD., and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
 
 
  1. Construction Status Report for the Hammond Hill Elementary School Additions and Renovation Project (Dr. Murphy)
 
In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, Cheatham Fletcher Scott (CFS), and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
 
  1. Construction Status Report for the Highland Springs Middle School Project (Dr. Murphy)
 
In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, LS3P Associates LTD., and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
 
  1. Construction Status Report for the Wagener-Salley High School New Construction (Dr. Murphy)
 
In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, McMillan Pazdan Smith, and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
