In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, LS3P Associates LTD., and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.

In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, LS3P Associates LTD, and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
 
  1. Construction Status Reports for the North Augusta High School Phase III Addition Project (Dr. Foster)
     
In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, McMillan Padano Smith Architecture and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
 
  1. Construction Status Reports for the Midland Valley High Addition Renovation Project (Dr. Foster)
     
In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, McMillan Padano Smith Architecture and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.

 

B.CONSENT ITEMS:  The following items will be voted on as a group, individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken.
 

  1. Ratification of Expulsions (Mr. Laurence)
     
The School Board according to the Code of Laws for South Carolina Section 59-63-240, is authorized to expel students from school.Although the Board may receive recommendations for expulsion from others, it solely is empowered to take the final expulsion action.
 
 
 
  1. Change Order #1 for the North Augusta High Phase 2 Additions – GMP #4 Phase 3 Demolition of Existing Classroom Building (Dr. Foster)
     
Shared Savings Credit for this Phase 2 Addition project is . . . . <$79,313.65>
 
 
  1. Design Development Drawings/Budget for the Belvedere Elementary Addition Renovation Project (Dr. Foster)
     
The administration in conjunction with the Architect has completed the Design Development Plans and Budget for the Belvedere Elementary Addition Renovation Project and will present to the Aiken County Board of Education for final approval.The project budget for construction is $10,399,620.00.The overall budget is $13,786,101.00 which has a 5% owner contingency.The project team is currently reviewing and updating the scope changes which include additional SCDOT requirements and site grading.An updated Design Development estimate and project budget summary will be provided by McMillan, Padano, Smith Architecture at the board meeting.

 
  1. Submission of the Education and Economic Development Act (EEDA) Preparing College- and Career Ready Graduates Competitive Grant Application – FY21 (Mrs. Glover)
     
The Aiken County Public School District would like to submit an application to the SC State Department of Education for the Education and Economic Development Act (EEDA) Preparing College-and Career-Ready Graduates Competitive Grant in the amount of $150,000.00 which is renewable for up to four years.The grant is designed to help schools implement evidence-base strategies and/or models specifically designed to address the academic and career development needs of students will possess the world class knowledge, world class skills, and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
 
The program will provide eligible at-risk students who have not been successful in a traditional high school program with rigorous, personalized learning opportunities ensuring their future success as productive citizens who will make meaningful contributions to society.Highlights of the proposed program include web-based instruction allowing students to earn high school credit; individualized pacing and course selection; school counselor support to assist students with foal setting based on academic, career, and social/emotional needs; mentor support; and community partnerships to ensure that all students are receiving supports needed for success.
 
  1. Nutrien PCS Administration (USA), Inc. Donation to Belvedere Elementary – FY20 (Mrs. Glover)
     
Belvedere Elementary School was given a $1,300.00 donation from Nutrien PCS Administration (USA), Inc.The funds from this donation will be used to purchase materials and supplies for Belvedere Elementary Science Day.
 
 
  1. New Spring Church Donation to Schofield Middle School – FY20 (Mrs. Glover)
     
Schofield Middle School was given a $3,750.00 donation from New Spring Church.The funds from this donation will be used for professional development, technology equipment, supplies and incentives for students, faculty, and staff.
 
  1. Submission of the Summer Reading Camp Community Partnership Grant (Mrs. Glover)
     
The General Assembly has provided funding to the State Department of Education for the Summer Reading Camp Community Partnership competitive grant opportunity whereby community organizations and school districts can collaborate to provide summer reading camp activities during the mandated Read to Succeed summer reading camp.In this Summer Reading Camp Partnership a cohort of approximately 400 second and third grade students who are significantly below grade-level reading proficiency from elementary schools across the district will participate in a six-week program that focuses on reading, writing, listening, and researching skills.With the $77,717 provided by the grant, the school district proposes a community partnership with the QuestZone to extend the hours of the Summer Reading Camp day in order to move the cohort of students closer to proficiently reading on grade level.

  1. Personnel Appointments (Mrs. Hart)
     
The certified and classified personnel presented have been screened by the Human Resources Department and interviewed and/or approved by the Principal or supervisor for each location.
 
  1. Out-of-District Transfer Requests (Mr. Laurence)
     
Board Policy JFABC allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students.The policy stipulates that when students transfer out of the District, “the School District of Aiken County shall assume no responsibility for tuition to the receiving district.”
 
  1. Elementary Tier 3 Behavior Intervention Program (Dr. Foster)
     
In recent years we have seen a trend in increasingly challenging behaviors in a small population of our elementary students across the county. Interventions at the school-level have often been less than successful and may be contributing to an over identification of students with disabilities. Surveyed teachers indicated that classroom management of students exhibiting extreme behavior is the most challenging aspect of their job. Teacher Forum and Elementary Principals have also noted that a significant portion of the school day is devoted to supporting students in crisis.
