  1. Construction Status Reports for the Midland Valley High Addition Project (Dr. Foster)
 
A construction status report for the Board is attached for review from McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture.
 
  1. Construction Status Reports for the Millbrook Elementary Additions & Renovations Project (Dr. Foster)
 
A construction status report for the Board is attached for review from Goodwyn Mills and Cawood (GMC) Architects.

  1. Construction Status Reports for the Ridge Spring-Monetta Elementary Phase 3 Addition Project (Dr. Foster)
 
In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, LS3P Associates LTD., and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
 
 

C.CONSENT ITEMS:  The following items will be voted on as a group, individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken.
 

  1. Ratification of Expulsions (Mr. Laurence)
 
The School Board according to the Code of Laws for South Carolina Section 59-63-240, is authorized to expel students from school.  Although the Board may receive recommendations for expulsion from others, it solely is empowered to take the final expulsion action.

 
  1. Local School Board Courses for 2020-2021 (Mrs. Glover)
 
Middle and high schools submit requests to offer locally-designed courses for their students, which may be offered for elective credit.  The school board must approve these locally designed courses annually.
 
  1. Language Immersion Mathematics: K-5 (Mrs. Glover)
 
The District examines and evaluates textbooks adopted by the State for use in the classroom and recommends to the School Board those selected by teacher committees for our district.  Upon approval by the School Board and funding by the State, schools may proceed to order those textbooks from the State Textbook Depository.
 
  1. Construction Bids for North Augusta Middle Remodeling of Restrooms (Dr. Foster)

Bids were received for the North Augusta Middle Remodeling of Restrooms Project on April 23, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. and publicly opened.Bids were received from 5 vendors with First Class Construction submitting the lowest base bid of Base Bid A: ($207,853.00) remodeling of the 7th grade boys and girls bathroom, media boys and girls bathroom and teacher workroom; Base Bid B: ($164,702.00) remodeling of the 6th grade boys and girls bathroom, media boys and girls bathroom and teacher workroom; Base Bid C: ($61,441.00) Remodeling of the 8th grade boys and girls bathroom, Cafeteria boys and girls bathroom and Faculty bathroom by the elevator.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
  1. CARES Grant (Mrs. Glover & Dr. Foster)

On March 27, 2020, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was signed into law.Congress set aside approximately $13.2 billion of the $30.75 billion allotted to the Education Stabilization Fund for the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund. The estimated allocation for Aiken County Public Schools is 6.6 million dollars, of which a portion will be allocated to charter schools and private schools base on their participation in federal programs
 
Due to COVID-19 and school closures, the district implemented distance learning through a hybrid of printed packets and online resources.Because of limited access to technology, many students have been unable to access educational content.Additionally, some teachers lack the technology to work from home on lesson planning and delivery.
 

 

D.INDIVIDUAL ITEMS

 
  1. Personnel Appointments (Mrs. Hart)
 
The certified and classified personnel presented have been screened by the Human Resources Department, and interviewed, and/or approved by the Principal or supervisor for each location.
 
  1. Addition of Administrative Rules GCC-R(2) (professional Staff) and GDC-R (2) (Support Staff), COVID-19 Related Leave (Mrs. Hart)

Administrative Rules GCC-R (2) (Professional Staff) and GDC-R (2) (Support Staff), COVID-19 Related Leave, establish guidelines for implementation of temporary leave requirements under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA)
 
  1. Out-of-District Transfer Requests (Mrs. Hart)
 
Board Policy JFABC allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students.  The policy stipulates that when students transfer out of the District, “the School District of Aiken County shall assume no responsibility for tuition to the receiving district.”
 
  1. Revisions to the Code of Student Conduct – First Reading (Dr. Foster)
 
The Code of Student Conduct is reviewed and updated annually.  As part of this process, a discipline steering committee consisting of community members, parents, educational leaders, teachers, board members, and administrators from all three grade levels reviews the Code of Student Conduct, and considers recommended additions, deletions, and revisions from school administrators in addressing student incidents with the intent of increasing consistency and appropriateness throughout the District.
 
 
 
  1. Revised Proposed Calendar for 2020-2021 (Dr. Foster)
 
The administration prepares a new calendar each year for Board approval.  The original 2020-2021 calendar was presented and approved by the Board in November 2019.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Augusta National’s Masters Golf Tournament was postponed until the week of November 9th through November 15th, 2020.  Traditionally, the district has scheduled spring break during the Masters in an effort to accommodate the needs of this event.  Historically, a number of school district employees, and students work the event, while many community members rent their home during this week.  Policy ICA provides guidance in the development of the school calendar and was last revised on January 12, 2016.
 
 
  1. Budget 2020-2021 Fiscal Year (Mr. Traxler)

    In its revised 2020-2021 budget calendar, the Board scheduled presentations of the first reading of the budget for May 12, 2020, and the second & final reading for June 9, 2020.

A budget hearing is scheduled to be held during the May 26, 2020, Board meeting.
