  1. Construction Status Reports for the Ridge Spring-Monetta Middle/High Phase 2 Addition Project (Dr. Foster)

    in an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, LS3P Associates LTD., and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
     
  2. Construction Status Reports for the North Augusta High School Phase III Addition Project (Dr. Foster)

    in an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s Review.

  1. Ratifications of Expulsions (Mr. Laurence)

The School Board according to the Code of Laws for South Carolina Section 59-63-240, is authorized to expel students from school.Although the Board may receive recommendations for expulsions for expulsion from others, it solely is empowered to take the final expulsion action.
 
  1. Ridge Spring-Monetta Elementary School Addition Phase III Project Final Architectural Contract Documents (Dr. Foster)
 
The architects, LS3P for this project have completed the final working drawings for construction of the Ridge Spring-Monetta Elementary School Addition Phase III Project.Final Architectural Contract Documents are prepared to present these final plans and construction budget by H.G. Reynolds Co., Inc. under separate cover to the Board for approval.
 
  1. Change Order Number 1 for the 2019 Replacements of Bleachers @ Kennedy Middle & Silver Bluff High (Dr. Foster)

  1. Request for Proposals for HVAC Services or Plumbing Services for Aiken County Public Schools (Dr. Foster)
     
Request for Proposals for HVAC Services or Plumbing Services were received October 23, 2019 @ 3:00 p.m.  Services are needed on a time and material basis primarily for mobile classroom installations; however, small projects may be performed as needed by Maintenance, Food Services or Principals and would be coordinated through the Facilities Construction Department of Maintenance Department.  Bradley Plumbing & Heating, Inc. performed this service previously and did good work.  Projects will be assigned by the administration as appropriate.





 
  1. Request for Proposals for Electrical Services for Aiken County Public Schools (Dr. Foster)

    Request for Proposals for Electrical Services were received October 22, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. Services are needed on a time and material basis primarily for mobile classroom installations; however, small projects may be performed as needed by Maintenance, Food Service or Principals and will be coordinated through the Facilities Construction Department or Maintenance Department.  After evaluating the proposals received, the Selection Committee believes the District would be best served if both companies are selected:  G & G Electrical of North Augusta ranked 1st as most responsible and responsive and West Electrical Contractors of Newberry, Inc. ranked 2nd as most responsible and responsive.
     
  2. Bridgestone Donation to Langley-Bath-Clearwater Middle School – FY20 (Mrs. Glover)

Langley-Bath-Clearwater Middle School was given a $1,500.00 donation from Bridgestone.The funds from this donation will be used to purchase protective covers for student laptops.
 
  1. Submission of Grant Application by the Business Services Department for the South Carolina School Boards Insurance Trust Risk Control Grant – FY20

The Business Services Department would like to submit a grant application for a $51,266.18 South Carolina School Boards Insurance Trust Risk Control Grant.The non-competitive grants program provides funding for the one-time purchase of a product or service that supports a member district’s risk management objectives. The money from this grant will be used for SafeSchools online training for all district staff, slip resistant shoes for all custodial staff, entry mats for school doorways, and three-prong cords to replace two-prong ungrounded cords.
 
  1. NewSpring Church Donation to Aiken Elementary School – FY20 (Mrs. Glover)

Aiken Elementary School was given a $3,750.00 donation from NewSpring Church. The funds from this donation will be used to purchase materials and supplies for the school’s media center and guidance department.
 
  1. IORIO Charitable Foundation Donation to Aiken Intermediate School – FY20 (Mrs. Glover)

Aiken Intermediate School was given a $5,000.00 donation from IORIO Charitable Foundation.The funds from this donation will be used for student incentives, staff incentives, and a refrigerator.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
  1. Submission of Grant Application for the Title III Immigrant Grant – FY20 (Mrs. Glover)

The Federal Programs Department would like to submit a Title III immigrant Grant Application for $33,399.51.The funds will be used for afterschool tutoring for immigrant students, bus transportation, instructional materials and supplies, and parent and family engagement materials and supplies.
 
  1. A.L. Corbett Public School Alumni Donation to A.L. Corbett Middle School – FY20 (Mrs. Glover)

A.L. Corbett Middle School was given a $1,200.00 donation from the A.L. Corbett Public School Alumni.The funds from this donation will be used to expand student opportunities in STEM, the Arts, and other programs. The monies will be allocated for field trips, purchased services for student learning experiences, and general materials and supplies.
 

C.INDIVDUAL ITEMS

 
  1. Personnel Appointments (Mrs. Hart)

The certified and classified personnel presented have been screened by the Human Resources Department, and interviewed and/or approved by the Principal or supervisor for each location.
 
  1. Out-of-District Transfer Requests (Mr. Laurence)

Board Policy JFABC allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students.The policy stipulates that when students transfer out of the District, “the School District of Aiken County shall assume no responsibility for tuition to the receiving district.”
 
  1. Changes to Policy GCD Professional Staff Vacations and Holidays and Policy GDD Support Staff Vacations and Holidays, Final Reading. (Mr. Traxler)

In November 2015, the School Board approved a significant change in policy that placed a 45-day cap on previously uncapped vacation leave beginning in the 2016-2017 school year. Employees who were over the 45-day cap as of the adoption of this change were grandfathered at greater than 45 days.The cap for each of those approximately 70 grandfathered employees was based upon his/her vacation leave balance as of June 30, 2016.
 
At its December 11, 2018, meeting as part of the one-time budget requests the Board approved the payout of grandfathered vacation days.Certain language in policies GCD and GDD became obsolete with the vacation payouts.
 
 
 
 
 
  1. Changes to Policy EFE Competitive Food Sales, First Reading (Mr. Traxler)

School Board Policy EFE addresses competitive food sales in school day settings.The current policy prohibits any competitive food sales at the elementary level.
 
 
  1. Changes to Policy JFAB Nonresident Students, Final Reading (Mr. Laurence)

Policy JFAB establishes the basic structure for admitting students who do not reside in the school district.
 
  1. Elementary Tier 3 Behavior Intervention Program (Dr. Foster)

In recent years we have seen a trend in increasingly challenging behaviors in a small population of our elementary students across the county.Interventions at the school-level have often been less than successful and may be contributing to an over identification of students with disabilities.Surveyed teachers indicated that classroom management of students exhibiting extreme behavior is the most challenging aspect of their job.Teacher Forum and Elementary Principals have also noted that a significant portion of the school day is devoted to supporting students in crisis.
