  1. Construction Status Reports for the Midland Valley High Addition Project (Dr. Foster)

In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
 
  1. Construction Status Reports for the Millbrook Elementary Additions & Renovations Project (Dr. Foster)

In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, Goodwyn Mills and Cawood (GMC), and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
 
  1. Construction Status Reports for the North Augusta High School Phase III Addition Project (Dr. Foster)

In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
 
  1. Construction Status Reports for the Ridge Spring-Monetta Elementary Phase 3 Addition Project (Dr. Foster)

In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, LS3P Associates LTD., and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
 
  1. Expansion of Community Eligibility Provision (Mr. Traxler)

The District currently has 19 community eligibility provision (CEP) schools.All students at those schools are eligible for breakfast and lunch at no cost.The District wishes to expand CEP by two schools during the 2020-2021 school year:Graniteville Elementary and Aiken Elementary.The 2018-2019 school year was the District’s first year of CEP participation with 16 schools.CEP expanded by three schools in 2019-2020.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

B.CONSENT ITEMS:  The following items will be voted on as a group, individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken.

 
  1. Dollar General Literacy Foundation Donation to Hammond Hill Elementary School – FY20 (Mrs. Glover)

Hammond Hill Elementary School was given a $2,000.00 donation from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.The funds from this donation will be used to purchase books for at-risk students to read over the summer and instructional materials and supplies to provide reading strategies to parents.
 
  1. Local School Board Courses for 2020-21 (Mrs. Glover)
     
The school board must approve locally designed courses annually.Two courses are being submitted to the previously approved course listing from the May 12, 2020 meeting.Those additional courses are African American Literature and the Photography of Science.
 
  1. Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES) Grant Funding (Mrs. Glover)
     
On March 27, 2020, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was signed into law.Congress set aside approximately $13.2 billion of the $30.75 billion allotted to the Education Stabilization Fund for the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund.The estimated allocation for Aiken County Public Schools is 6.6 million dollars, of which a portion will be allocated to charter schools and private schools based on their participation in federal programs.
 
Due to COVID-19 and school closures, the district implemented distance learning through a hybrid of printed packets and online resources.Because of limited access to technology, many students have been unable to access educational content.Additionally, some teachers lack the technology to work from home on lesson planning and delivery.
 
On May 12, 2020, the school board approved the use of CARES funding for the use of technology to implement a 1:1 digital learning initiative for students in grades 6-12 to include devices, security tracking software, protection devices, extended warranties, and additional licenses for our current Learning Management System.

  1. Personnel Appointments (Mrs. Hart)

The certified and classified personnel presented have been screened by the Human Resources Department and interviewed, and/or approved by the Principal or supervisor for each location.
 
 
  1. Out-of-District Requests (Mrs. Hart)

Board Policy JFABC allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students.The policy stipulates that when students transfer out of the District “the School District of Aiken County shall assume no responsibility for tuition to receiving district.”

Board Policy JFAB allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students.The policy stipulates that non-resident students transfer into the District “the parent/legal guardian must assume responsibility for transportation.The Board will hold nonresident students to the behavioral and academic requirements set out in policy JFAA, admission of resident students.The district may charge tuition to nonresident students seeking to enroll in district schools.”
 
  1. Changes to Policy EGAD Copyright Compliance and Administrative Rule EGAD Copyright Compliance, Final Reading (Mrs. Hart)

Policy EGAD establishes the basic structure for district compliance with federal copyright laws and regulations.
 
  1. Adoption of Policy IMG Service Animals and Administrative Rule IMG Service Animals, Final Reading (Mrs. Hart)

Title II of the ADA (28 CFR Part 35) requires school districts and other public entities to make reasonable modifications in policies, practices, or procedures to allow service animals when necessary in order to avoid discrimination on the basis of disability.  Section 504, which incorporates the protections afforded by the ADA, applies to entities that receive federal funds, which it defines as any state or its political subdivision, any instrumentality of a state or its political subdivision, any public or private agency, institution, organization, or other entity, or any person to which Federal financial assistance is extended.

 
  1. 2020-2021 Budget – Second Final Reading (Mr. Traxler)

The First Reading of the budget was presented for Board consideration at its May 12, 2020 meeting.A budget hearing was held on Tuesday, June 2, 2020.
 
In its revised 2020-2021 budget calendar, the Board scheduled presentation of the Second & Final Reading for June 9, 2020.
