  1. Personnel Appointments (Mrs. Hart)
 
The certified and classified personnel presented have been screened by the Human Resources Department and interviewed, and/or approved by the Principal or Supervisor for each location.
 
  1. Policy KF Community Use of School Facilities, File KF School Facility Rental Contract (Dr. Minolfo)
 
Policy KF Community Use of School Facilities provides a structure that allows community use of school facilities. Community members may request to rent school gymnasiums. Auditoriums, and the new Aiken Performing Arts Center. This Policy provides guidelines for the use of the facility as well as File KF School Facility Rental Contract, which is the document the community member uses to rent school facilities.
 
  1. Policy JICJ Paging Devices, Cell Phones, and Other Personal Electronic Devices, First Reading (Dr. Minolfo)
 
Recently South Carolina Budget Proviso1.103 was approved which prohibits student access to personal electronic communications devices during the school day. The proviso defines a personal electronic communication device as a device not authorized for classroom use by a student utilized to access the Internet, wi-fi, or cellular telephone signals. The Proviso requires the School Board to establish a policy which is consistent with the Policy issued by the State Board of Education regarding this requirement.
 
  1. Modified Academic Calendars for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 School Years (Mr. Jeffcoat)
 
The administration prepares a new calendar each year for Board approval. Policy Ica provides guidance in the development of the school calendar.
 
 
  1. CONSENT ITEMS: The following items will be voted on as a group, individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken.
 
  1. Ratification of Expulsions (Dr. Murphy)
 
The School Board, according to the Code of Laws for South Carolina Section
 59-63-240, is authorized to expel students from school. Although the Board may receive recommendations for expulsion from others, it solely is empowered to take the final expulsion action.
 
 
 
 
 
 
  1. Out-of-District Transfer Requests (Dr. Minolfo)
 
Board Policy JFABC allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students.  The policy stipulates that when students transfer out of the District, “the School District of Aiken shall assume no responsibility for tuition to the receiving district.”
 
  1. Western Carolina State Fair Foundation Donation to Aiken County Career & Technology Center – FY25 (Dr. Edwards)
 
Aiken County Career & Technology Center – Criminal Justice Program has received a $2,000.00 donation from the Western Carolina State Fair (WCSF) Foundation. The funds will be used towards the purchase of a patrol car of the Criminal Justice Program.
 
  1. Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) K-12 Catalyst Grant for STEM Education Awards to Aiken County Public School District – FY25 (Dr. Edwards)
 
The Aiken County Public School District has received a $5,000.00 grant award from Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) made possible through the generosity of Battelle Savannah River Alliance, LLC. (BSRA) and the Columbus Foundation. The purpose of K-12 Catalyst Grant for STEM Education Program is to support teachers in bringing STEM inro K-12 classrooms which provides students with real-life skills, making them better problem solvers and better prepared for their future.
 
  1. Forrest William Cauthen Estate Donation to Redcliffe Elementary School – FY25 (Dr. Edwards)
 
Redcliffe Elementary School has received a $3,500.0 donation from the Forrest Williams Cauthen Estate. The funds will be used for faculty and staff incentives to recognize and reward their hard work, dedication, and contributions to the school and to support a positive work environment.
 
  1. Picnic Master, Inc. Donation to Midland Valley High School NJROTC Program – FY25 (Dr. Edwards)
 
Midland Valley High School’s NJROTC program has received a $1,400.00 donation from Picnic Master, Inc. The funds will be used to purchase unit t-shirts.
 
  1. South Carolina Department of Education – Arts in Education – Arts Enhancement Program (AEP) Grant Award to Aiken Elementary School – FY25 (Dr. Edwards)
 
Aiken Elementary School has been awarded a South Carolina Department of Education Arts in Education Arts Enhancement Program (AEP) Grant in the amount of $10,000.00. By implementing the Theatre and Dance standards, the school aims to improve student achievement in the visual and performing arts.
 
 
 
 
  1. Items to be Declared Surplus and Method of Disposal (Mr. Traxler)
 
Miscellaneous school furnishings and equipment have been screened and determined to be obsolete and no longer of use to the District. Board approval is requested for the disposal of these items (ACPSD Procurement Code Article 15 Supply Management Sections 3810 and 3820).
 
 
  1. GMP #1 for Football field turf at Aiken High, Midland Valley High, and Silver Bluff High Schools (Dr. Yarborough)
 
Replacement of the existing grass field with new artificial turf, including all clearing, grading/earthwork, water lines, erosion control, concrete, stone base, and new foal posts for Aiken High, Midland Valley High, and Silver Bluff High. The GMP for this project is $5,115,122.00. The funding for Aiken High would come from 1% funds, Midland Valley High and Silver Bluff High will be funded from the Athletics budget.
 
  1. Construction Bids for the 2025 Scrubbing and Coating of Gymnasiums Floors (Dr. Yarborough)
 
Bids were received for the 2025 Scrubbing and Coating of Gymnasium Floors September 24, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. and publicly opened.

In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
