  1. Adoption of the following policy:  Policy JFABD Admission of Homeless Students, Second Reading (Dr. Minolfo)
 
The Office of Elementary and Secondary Education in the Department of Education issues guidelines for States related to requirements under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (McKinney-Vento Act), as amended by Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
 
  1. Adoption of the Following Policy:  Policy GBEBE Gavin’s Law (Sexual Extortion (Staff), First Reading, Policy JICFB Gavin’s Law (Sexual Extortion (Students) First Reading (Dr. Minolfo)
 
Names after Rep. Brandon Guffey’s son Gavin Guffey, the General Assembly passed a new law establishing sexual extortion and aggravated felony extortion as criminal offenses and setting prison sentences for each.This law amends the South Carolina Code of Laws to add Section 16-15-430.One of the statutory requirements is for school districts to collaborate with the State Department of Education (SCDE), the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), and the Attorney General’s (AG) office, to implement a policy to educate and notify students of the provisions of the new law.To satisfy the collaboration component on behalf of our member districts, the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA) facilitated support of the attached model policies by the three named agencies.
 
  1. Update of Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan (Mrs. Hart)
 
On March 13, 2021, the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act was signed into law.As part of ARP, the U.S. Department of Education is providing an additional $121.9 billion for the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER III Fund).
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
  1. Request for Proposals – Comprehensive Compensation Study (Mr. Traxler)
 
To aid recruitment and retention efforts and gauge competitiveness, the District sought proposals from firms to evaluate ACPSD’s compensation structure in comparison to select school districts and the job market.

  1. Ratification of Expulsions (Mr. Laurence)
 
The School Board according to the Code of Laws for South Carolina, Section 59-63-240, is authorized to expel students from school.Although the Board may receive recommendations for expulsion from others, it solely is empowered to take the final expulsion action.

  1. Request to Admit Foreign Exchange Student (Dr. Minolfo)
 
School Board Policy JFABB establishes guidelines for the admission of the exchange students to the high schools in the School District of Aiken County.
 
  1. Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, LLC Donation to Aiken Elementary School – FY24 (Dr. Edwards)
 
Aiken Elementary School has a $1,500.00 donation from Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, LLC.The funds will be used to purchase breakfast items for the school’ monthly All Pro Dads breakfast meeting.
 
  1. Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, LLC Donation to Midland Valley High School – FY24 (Dr. Edwards)
 
Midland Valley High School baseball program has been given a $2,500.00 donation from Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, LLC.The funds will be used for baseball operations, supplies, equipment, maintenance and uniforms.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
  1. DHEC Recycling Education Grant Award to Mossy Creek Elementary School – FY24 (Dr. Edwards)
 
Mossy Creek Elementary School has bee awarded the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control Recycling Education Grant in the amount of $1,500.00.The funds will be used to purchase 23-gallon high boy bins with lids and biodegradable bags for use in their schoolwide recycling project.
 
  1. Gregg-Graniteville foundation, Inc. Grant Award to Midland Valley High School – FY24 (Dr. Edwards)
 
Midland Valley High School’s DECA Chapter has received a $9,465.00 grant ward from the Gregg-Graniteville Foundation, Inc.The funds will be used to open a school-based enterprise (SBE) called the Stomping Grounds Café.
 
  1. South Carolina Arts Commission – Arts in Basic Curriculum Learning Loss Grant Award – East Aiken School of the Arts – FY24 (Dr. Edwards)
 
East Aiken School of the Arts has been awarded a South Carolina Arts Commission for the Arts in Basic Curriculum (ABC) Learning Loss Grant in the amount of $4,998.00.
 
  1. 2023 Annual Maintenance Painting for Districtwide Aiken County Public Schools (Dr. Murphy)
 
Bids were received on October 17, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. and publicly opened for the 2023 Annual Maintenance Painting for Districtwide Aiken County Public Schools.
 
  1. 2023 Clearwater Elementary Canopy Project (Dr. Murphy)
 
Bids were for the 2023 Clearwater Elementary Project on October 11, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. and publicly opened.
 
  1. Greenhouse Installation at Midland Valley High (Dr. Murphy)
 
Bids were received on September 12, 2023at 2:00 p.m. from 2 bidders publicly opened.
 
  1. Change Oder #2 for the Highland Springs Middle Project Main Building Package GMP #2 (Dr. Murphy)
