A.INDIVIDUAL ITEMS

 
  1. Personnel Appointments (Mrs. Hart)
 
The certified and classified personnel presented have been screened by the Human Resources Department and interviewed, and/or approved by the Principal or supervisor for each location.
 
  1. Revision of the following policy:  Policy IHAQ Career/Transition-To-Work Education, Second Reading (Dr. Minolfo)
 
Aiken County Public School District cyclically reviews policies and administrative rules.Section I – Instruction are policies that provide guidance for the district on instructional practices in the district.
 
  1. Proposal to Address Bus Driver Shortage (Mr. Traxler)
 
Our District, like many others continues to deal with a significant shortage of bus drivers. We are currently short by approximately three dozen drivers.This puts a significant strain on current drivers who may be required to drive double or triple routes, school staff who work longer hours to supervise late-departing students, and families.The Administration continues to seek ways to recruit new drivers and retain employed drivers.
 
  1. Planning for the New Career Center on the Aiken Technical College Campus (Dr. Murphy)
 
As part of the general assembly’s budget for 2022-23 that Governor Henry McMaster signed, ACPSD is to receive $30,000,000.00 to fund a new Career and Technology Center.This funding comes from the MOX settlement with the Department of Energy regarding the storage of plutonium at Savannah River Site.Senator Tom Young and our legislative delegation were instrumental in securing this funding for the Career and Technology Center.
 

B.CONSENT ITEMS:  The following items will be voted on as a group, individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken.

 
  1. Out-of-District Transfer Requests – Transfers In (Dr. Minolfo)
 
Board Policy JFAB allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students.  The policy stipulates that non-resident students transfer into the District “the parent/legal guardian must assume responsibility for transportation.  The Board will nonresident students to the behavioral and academic requirements set out in policy JFAA admission of resident students. The district may charge tuition to nonresident students seeking to enroll in district schools.”
 
 
 
 
  1. Out-of-District Transfer Requests – Transfers Out (Dr. Minolfo)
 
Board Policy JFABC allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students.  The policy stipulates that when students transfer out of the district, “the School District of Aiken County shall assume no responsibility for tuition to the receiving district.”
 
  1. Request for Approval for Home Instruction (Dr. Murphy & Dr. Allgood)
 
The School Board, according to the Code of Laws for South Carolina, Section 59-65-40, is authorized to approve home schooling for parents not opting for approval by the South Carolina Association of Independent Home Schools. The program has to meet certain standards as outlined in the bill, Policy IEK and IEK-R.
 
  1. Change Order Number 1 for the 2022 Installation of Flooring at Clearwater Elementary, Gloverville Elementary, and Millbrook Elementary (Dr. Murphy)
 
Credit for Unused allowances…………<$35,704.00>
 
  1. Request for Proposal (RFP) Extensions for Two Additional years is need for Project Oversight (Dr. Murphy)
 
The following firms have request for proposals (RFP) with Aiken County Public Schools on an annual basis.We need to extend these firms for an additional 2-years to help with Project Oversight.
 
  1. Approval of Sponsoring Organization for Admission of Exchange and Foreign Exchange Students (Dr. Minolfo)
 
School Board Policy JFABBAdmission of Exchange and Foreign Students provides guidelines for the approval of a sponsoring agency, which affirms the board’s willingness to participate in the organization’s program of student exchange.
 
 
  1. South Carolina Arts Commission – Arts in Basic Curriculum (ABC) Grant Award – New Ellenton Middle STEAM Magnet School – FY23 (Dr. Edwards)
 
New Ellenton Middle STEAM Magnet School has been awarded a South Carolina Arts Commission for the Arts in Basic Curriculum (ABC) Grant in the amount of $12,500.00.The purpose of the ABC grant is to assist schools and districts in developing and implementing arts initiatives that support quality arts education programs that significantly improve student achievement in the arts.The monies will be used to fund substitute teachers for arts teachers to conduct strategic planning to implement arts integration strategies across all grade levels, equipment/maintenance, artists-in-residence instruction, professional development, arts-based field trips, equipment/maintenance, and materials and supplies for theatre, music, dance, visual arts, and performances.
 
 
 
  1. Publix Donation – Aiken County Public School District - FY23 (Dr. Edwards)
 
The Aiken County Public School District has received a donation from Publix in the amount of $2,333.25. The funds will be used to provide school supplies to students and teachers.

In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, LS3P Associates LTD.
 
  1. Construction Status Report for the Hammond Hill Elementary School Additions and Renovations Project. (Dr. Murphy)
 
In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, Cheatham, Fletcher Scott (CFS), and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
 
  1. Construction Status Report for the Highland Springs Middle School Project (Dr. Murphy)
 
In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, LS3P Associates LTD., and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
 
  1. Construction Status Report for the North Augusta High School Football Restrooms and Concessions Project (Dr. Murphy)
 
In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this, McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
