The certified and classified personnel presented have been screened by the Human Resources Department and interviewed, and/or approved by the Principal or supervisor for each location.
 
  1. Review and/or revision of the following “I” Policies, administrative rules, and files  - Instruction Policies (Mrs. Glover & Dr. Minolfo)
 
Aiken County Public School District cyclically reviews policies, administrative rules, and files.Section I – Instruction are policies that provide guidance for the district on instructional practices in the district.
 
  1. Revision of the following policy and administrative rule: (Dr. Murphy & Dr. Minolfo)
Policy JIH Student Searches, Interrogations and Arrests, Second Reading
 
Administration has recommended the revision of Policy KLG Relations with Law Enforcement Authorities and the adoption of Policy KLGA School Resource Officers.Policy JIH Student Searches, Interrogations and Arrests and Administrative Rule JIH-R Student Searches, Interrogations and Arrests require revisions to align to Policy KLG and Policy KLGA.

Aiken County Public School District cyclically reviews policies and administrative rules.Section K Schools-Community-Home Relations contain policies, administrative rules, and files that provide support in the development of a positive relationship between the district, community and parent/guardians.
 
  1. Consideration of Acquisition and Transition to New School Food Service Software (Mr. Traxler)
 
The School Food Services department currently uses MealsPlus as its point of sale, student meal balance, and inventory software.The MealsPlus software is being phased out and will no longer be available to Aiken upon the expiration of our current contract in September 2022.
 
 

B.CONSENT ITEMS:  The following items will be voted on as a group, individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken.

 
  1. Ratification of Expulsions (Mr. Laurence)
The School Board according to the Code of Laws for South Carolina Section 59-63-240, is authorized to expel students from school.Although the Board may receive recommendations for expulsion from others, it solely is empowered to take the final expulsion action.
 
 
  1. Out-of-District Transfer Requests – Transfers In 2022-2023 (Dr. Minolfo)
 
Board Policy JFAB allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students.The policy stipulates that non-resident students transfer into the District “the parent/legal guardian must assume responsibility for transportation.The Board will nonresident students to the behavioral and academic requirements set out in policy JFAA admission of resident students. The district may charge tuition to nonresident students seeking to enroll in district schools.”

Board Policy JFABC allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students.The policy stipulates that when students transfer out of the district, “the School District of Aiken County shall assume no responsibility for tuition to the receiving district.”

  1. ESSER III – ESOL Curriculum (Mrs. Glover & Mrs. Cansler)
 
As part of the ESSER III plan approved by the board on July 27, 2022, funds were allocated for the purchase of a consistent ESOL curriculum for K-12 students throughout Aiken County. A common curriculum will help ensure multilingual learners of all proficiency levels (Starting, Emerging, Developing, Expanding, Bridging), as well as Newcomer and SLIFE (Students with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education) students, receive appropriate English language acquisition and English development instruction as they move through levels of English proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Currently, ESOL teachers use a variety of resources to address the needs of their students.
 
Over a three-month period, ESOL teachers thoroughly investigated three different curricula, consulted other districts on the use of their curriculum, and sought guidance from the State Department’s Title III office. The ESOL teachers unanimously determined that the Ballard and Tigue curriculum is aligned with the newly developed WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework and will serve as a guide to teachers in their instruction of multilingual learners and provides a bridge to ACPSD’s Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science content area standards across all grade levels.
 
  1. Midway USA Foundation Donation to Midland Valley High School NJROTC (Mrs. Glover & Mrs. Cansler)
 
Midland Valley High School NJROTC program has received a $1,778.00 donation from the Midway USA Foundation.The funds will be used to finance travel for the rifle team to attend Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) meets in various locations throughout the Carolinas.Remaining funds will be used for the maintenance and repair of rifles, purchase of a new rifle, two new sporting scopes, pellets, targets, team apparel, and/or necessary rifle team incidentals.
 
  1. Approval to Award a Contract for Perishable Milk Products (Mr. Traxler)
 
Milk products are healthy complement to the nutritional meals the District provides for our students.The School Food Service Department seeks to enter into a contract for the daily delivery of perishable milk products.
 
  1. GMP #1 for Aiken High School Auditorium Addition Phase 4 Project (Dr. Murphy)
 
H.G. Reynolds Company, Inc. received bids for Construction Management at Risk for Aiken High Phase 4 Construction.The original construction budget approved by the board on February 8, 2022 schematic design budget was $15,812,000.00. The increase of approximately $250,000.00 was added to paint and refloor F-Wing. The total budget needed is $20,550,000.00 which includes an owner project contingency of $1,720,000.00.
 
 
 
 
  1. Schematic Design Plans, Design Development Drawings/Budget and Construction Documents for the North Augusta High Visitor Side Football Stadium ADA Restroom/Concession (Dr. Murphy)
 
The administration in conjunction with the Architect McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture has completed the Schematic Design Plans, Design Development, and Construction Documents for the North Augusta High Visitor Side Football Stadium ADA Restroom/Concession to meet ADA needs.The current construction budget is $1,200,000.00.The overall budget includes design, advertising, FFE, and Owner Contingency is $1,600,000.00.The scope of work would be the building of a restroom/concession stand on the visitor side of the football stadium at North Augusta High and use 1% bond funds.
