  1. Leveraging Digital Learning (Mrs. Dove)
 
  1. Construction Status Reports for the Belvedere Elementary School Addition and Renovations Project (Dr. Murphy)
 
In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this construction project, the Architects for this project, McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
 
  1. Construction Status Reports for the Hammond Hill Elementary Additions and Renovations Project (Dr. Murphy)
 
In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, Cheatham Fletcher Scott (CFS), and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
 
  1. Construction Status Reports for the Millbrook Elementary Additions and Renovations Project (Dr. Murphy)
 
In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, Goodwyn Mills and Cawood (GMC), and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
 
 

B.CONSENT ITEMS:  The following items will be voted on as a group, individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken.

 

  1. Ratification of Expulsions (Mr. Laurence)
 
The School Board, according to the Code of Laws for South Carolina Section 59-63-240, is authorized to expel students from school.Although the Board may receive recommendations for expulsion from others, it solely is empowered to take the final expulsion action.
 
  1. Out-District Transfer Requests – Transfers In (Dr. Minolfo)
 
Board Policy JFAB allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students.The policy stipulates that non-resident students transfer into the District “the parent/legal guardian must assume responsibility for transportation.The Board will hold nonresident students to the behavioral and academic requirements set out in policy JFAA, admission of resident students.The district may charge tuition to nonresident students seeking to enroll in district schools.”
 
 
 
  1. USA Lacrosse Grand Award to Aiken High School – FY22(Mrs. Cansler & Dr. Murphy)
 
Aiken High School has been selected to receive a USA Lacrosse First Stick High School Equipment Grand award.Through this award the school will receive the following:equipment for 20 field players, equipment for one goalie, and complimentary USA Lacrosse membership for up to 20 players and 2 coaches.The approximate dollar value of the award totals $8,350.00.
 
  1. International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union Donation to Jefferson Elementary School – FY22 (Mrs. Glover & Mrs. Cansler)
 
Jefferson Elementary School has been given a $2,000.00 donation from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 1579.The funds will be used to purchase the Renaissance Accelerated Reader Program to support and encourage student’s independent reading.
 
  1. Whole Kids Foundation Grant Award to A.L. Corbett Middle School – FY22 (Mrs. Glover & Mrs. Cansler)
 
A.L. Corbett Middle School has received a $3,000.00 grant award from the Whole Kids Foundation.The funds will be used to purchase materials, supplies, and services to support their “Grow Corbett Green” edible greenhouse and garden project where students will learn how to grow fresh produce throughout the seasons.The purchases include garden tools, tool shed, curriculum materials, labor for shed garden boxes, planning materials, outdoor benches/tables for learning, greenhouse work tables, raised bed box materials and garden signage.
 
  1. Submission of the South Carolina Department of Education’s National School Lunch Program Equipment Assistance Grant for the School Food Services Department (Mr. Traxler & Mrs. Cansler)
 
            The School Food Service Department is requesting to submit a grant application for SCDE’s National School Lunch Program Equipment Assistance for a total of $128,600.00. The funds from this grant would be used to purchase steamers, serving counters, and ovens for the cafeterias for the following schools:

  1. A Request to Purchase an Excavator, Attachments, a Trailer and a Maintenance Plan (Dr. Murphy & Dr. Yarborough)
 
There are a large number of retention and detention ponds located throughout the District that require regular maintenance in the form of tree, brush, and excess sediment removal.In addition, area that cannot be reached with conventional grass or brush cutting equipment require the use of machinery such as excavators with special attachments to maintain them properly.The District currently contracts with vendors who can perform these services at significant expense.The purchase of an excavator will allow Maintenance personnel to perform these tasks on a cyclical basis and save money over an extended period of time.
 
  1. Update - 2021-22 Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan (Mr. Rosier)
 
On March 11, 2021, the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act was signed into law.As part of ARP, the U.S. Department of Education is providing an additional $121.9 billion for the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER III Fund).This legislation is awarding grants to state education agencies, including the SC Department of Education , to provide local education agencies, including Aiken County Public Schools, with emergency relief funds to address the impact of COVID-19 on elementary and secondary schools across the nation.

  1. Personnel Appointments (Mrs. Hart)
 
The certified and classified personnel presented have been screened by the Human Resources Department, and interviewed, and/or approved by the Principal of supervisor for each location.
 
  1. Revision of Policy DA Fiscal Management Goals/Priority Objectives, Second Reading (Dr. Minolfo & Mr. Traxler)
 
Policy DA Fiscal Management Goals/Priority Objectives establishes the board’s vision for sound fiscal management of the district. Policy DA outlines the process to ensure decisions are made to provide the most effective educational program for the district.
 
 
  1. Revision of Policy JFABC Admission of Transfer Students, Second Reading (Dr. Minolfo)
 
Students are assigned to schools according to the location of the residence of their parent/legal guardians, unless specifically authorized to attend a different school.The board has the authority to transfer and assign students within the district.Student transfers will comply with adopted board policy and state laws.
 
 
  1. Revision of Policy IKA Grading/Assessment Systems, Second Reading (Mrs. Glover & Dr. Minolfo)
 
Aiken County Public School District offers a uniform grading policy to provide guidance for schools. Policy IKA Grading/Assessments is based on the South Carolina State Board of Education’s Uniform Grading Policy (UGP).The UGP was updated in May 2019.
 
 
 
  1. Revision of the following policy and administrative rule:  Policy IHBB Gifted and Talented Education, First Reading and Administrative Rule IHBB-R Gifted and Talented Education (Mrs. Glover, Mrs. Cansler, Dr. Minolfo)
 
Aiken County Public School District offers gifted and talented education to meet the needs of all students. The board requires the administration to establish educational standards and develop a special program for students identified as “gifted and talented.”
