  1. Facilities Construction Department Quarterly Change Order Notification

Policy FGG sets the limit of approval for construction change orders by the Superintendent or designee up to $15, 000, and 00.The policy requires a summary of such change orders to be presented to the Board at least once a quarter for notification.

  1. CARES Act Emergency Operating Grants for Child Care Providers Submission for Freedman Early Learning Center – FY21 (Mrs. Glover)

The Freedman Early Learning Center is requesting in submit a grant application for the CARES Act Emergency Operating Grants for Child Care Providers for $10,000.00.The CARES Act Emergency Operating Grants for Child Care Providers is a one-time grant available to licensed and registered childcare providers to assist them in remaining open or reopening quickly and safely.

Funds are designed to help childcare providers that have had to close or have lost revenue due to low enrollments during the last several weeks as a result of COVID-19.This grant opportunity is available to assist providers based on enrollment.The grant funds will be used for PPE and sanitizing equipment and supplies such as masks, gloves, touchless automatic hand sanitizer dispensers, hand sanitizers for dispensers, sanitizing wipes, etc.
 
  1. Kevin & Brittany Kisner Foundation Donation to Hammond Hill Elementary School – FY21 (Mrs. Glover)

Hammond Hill Elementary School was given a $2,000.00 donation from the Kevin & Brittany Kisner Foundation.The funds from this donation will be used to purchase books for at-risk students to read over the summer and general/instructional materials and supplies for teacher read-alouds and parent strategies for reading with children.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

 
  1. Submission of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act Education for Homeless Children and Youths 2020-21 Discretionary Subgrant – FY21

The South Carolina Department of Education awards grants, subject to available funds, to local educational agencies (LEAs) for the purpose of facilitating the identification, enrollment, attendance, and success in school of homeless children and youths. Under the McKinney-Vento Education for Homeless Children and Youths Program, state educational agencies must ensure that each homeless child and youth has equal access to the same free, appropriate public education, including preschool education, as other children and youth. Many of these children live in shelters or transitional housing; some stay with relatives; others may live in cars, abandoned buildings, or other substandard accommodations.
 
The Aiken County School District is proposing to submit a grant for $45,000 to assist identified homeless students for the 2020-2021 school year. Funds will be used to assist identified students with the following: transportation costs to allow students to remain in their school of origin; tutoring services; referral services for medical, dental, mental and other health services; records and immunization costs; summer school; credit recovery; coordination between schools and other supporting agencies; special program fees; basic graduation supply costs; school supplies; basic clothing and personal items. School counselors and Title I Student Service Workers will assist in identifying and serving homeless students who meet the McKinney-Vento guidelines. 
 
 
  1. South Carolina School Boards Association Dues (Mr. Laurence)

Over the past years, the Aiken County Board of Education has purchased membership in the South Carolina Schools Boards Association.In addition to membership benefits, the Association provided a policy update service and legal assistance fund.Also included is an annual policy maintenance and Internet subscription fee.

  1. Personnel Appointments (Mrs. Hart)

The certified and classified personnel presented have been screened by the Human Resources Department, and interviewed, and/or approved by the Principal or supervisor for each location.
 
  1. Out-of-District Transfer Requests (Dr. Minolfo)

Board Policy JFAB allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students.The policy stipulates that non-resident students transfer into the District “the parent legal guardian must assume responsibility for transportation.The Board will hold nonresident students to the behavioral and academic requirements set out in policy JFAA, admission of resident students.The district may charge tuition to nonresident students seeking to enroll in district schools.”
 
 
 
 
 
  1. Out-of-District Transfer Requests (Dr. Minolfo)

Board Policy JFABC allows the Aiken Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students.The policy stipulates that when students transfer out of the District, “the School District of Aiken County shall assume no responsibility for tuition to the receiving district.”
 
  1. Addition of Administrative Rules GCC-R(3) (Professional Staff) and GDC-R(3) (Support Staff), Professional Leave - Internships  (Mrs. Hart)

Administrative Rules GCC-R (3) (Professional Staff) and GDC-R (3) (Support Staff), Professional Leave – Internships, establish guidelines to allow staff members to participate in internship opportunities without adversely affecting their employment status.
