2. Construction Status Reports for the North Augusta High School 2A & 2B Addition Projects (Dr. Foster)
In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
3. Construction Status Reports for the Leavelle McCampbell Middle School Project (Dr. Foster)
In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
4. Construction Status Reports for the Aiken High School Phase 2A Addition Project (Dr. Foster)
In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, LS3P Associates LTD., and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
5. Construction Status Reports for the South Aiken High Visitor’s Side Restroom and Concession Project (Dr. Foster)
In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
6. Facilities Construction Department Quarterly Change Order Notification (Dr. Foster)
Policy FGG sets the limit of approval for construction change orders by the Superintendent or designee up to $15,000.00. The policy requires a summary of such change orders to be presented to the Board at least once a quarter for notification.
7. Truancy Intervention Program and Court Update (Dr. Foster)
This past school year a task force was formed to look into ways to improve compliance with compulsory attendance requirements and to seek reduction in court involvement with truancy, if possible. The task force included School District administrators, the District hearing officer, District legal counsel, and District Attendance staff employees. Other members were Solicitor J. Strom Thurmond, Jr., and employees from his office and its juvenile task force, with the Committee being chaired by Assistant Solicitor (and Juvenile prosecutor) Serena McDaniel. Rounding out the membership were several Department of Juvenile Justice representatives, the attorney specializing in juvenile defense from the Office of Public Defender; and the Clerk of Court – Hon. Robert Harte. The group met numerous times during this past school year and made site visits to other parts of the state where truancy court and/or truancy alternative programs have been implemented.
8. Financial Report, as of May 31, 2017 (Mr. Traxler)
The financial report of May 31, 2017 is submitted in the approved format.
- CONSENT ITEMS: The following items will be voted on as a group. Individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken.
1. Out-of-District Transfer Requests (Mr. Laurence)
Board Policy JFABC allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students. The policy stipulates that when students transfer out of the District, “the School District of Aiken County shall assume no responsibility for tuition to the receiving district.”
2. FY2017 Application for Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (Dr. Washington)
Title I, Part A provides federal assistance to school districts to help fund high quality, challenging instructional programs for children in schools that serve areas that have high concentrations of poverty. The State Department of Education has projected that $7,750,198.57 in Title I, Part A funds will be allocated to the District for 2017-2018 school year.
