- Legislative Update (Mrs. English)
2. Recruitment and Retention Committee Update Phase 2 (Mrs. Hart)
The Recruitment and Retention Committee concluded with a specific set of recommended action steps and the need for a more detailed analysis
of each. To facilitate this process, three (3) working committees were
established, one of which focuses on enhancing recruitment effort.
- CONSENT ITEMS: The following items will be voted on as a group. Individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken.
1. Approval to make contract award for Extended Day Program (Mrs. Glover)
During the 2017-18/2018-19 school years Aiken County Public Schools
contracted with multiple vendors to provide extended day services for
various schools. As part of our ongoing effort to provde improved and
more efficient services for our students and their families, a request
for proposals was issued to consolidate services.
2. Innovative Course Applications (Mrs. Glover)
The State Department of Education requires board approval for locally designed
and innovative courses. The Executive Director of High Schools and
administration of Aiken High School are requesting to obtain approval to
submit course applications to the South Carolina Department of Education
for review and approval.
3. Submission of the Distinguished Arts Program (DAP) 2019-20 Arts Curricular
Grant (ACIG) Application by Aiken Elementary School – FY20 (Mrs. Glover)
Aiken Elementary School would like to submit an application to the SC State Department of Education for the Distinguished Arts Program (DAP) Arts
Curricular Innovation grant in the amount of $18,000.00. The grant will
assist in developing and implementing arts initiatives that support quaility
arts education programs and significantly improve student achievement in
arts. Distinguished Arts Programs (DAP) grants provide funds for one-year
projects. If awarded, grant funds will be used to fund artist-in-residencies,
professional development, and instructional supplies and equipment.
4. The South Carolina Department of Education’s National School Program Equipment Assistance Grant Award for J.D. Lever Elementary School – FY19 (Mr. Traxler)
The School Food Service Department was awarded $22,000.00 for SCDE’s National School Lunch Program Equipment Assistance Grant for J.D. Lever Elementary School. The funds from this grant will be used to purchase a Double Stack Steamer and reach in Cooler for the cafeteria.
5. The South Carolina Department of Education’s National School Lunch Program Equipment Assistance Grant Award for Jefferson Elementary School - FY19
(Mr. Traxler)
The School Food Service Department was awarded $14,700.00 for SCDE’s National School Lunch Program Equipment Assistance Grant for Jefferson
Elementary School. The funds from this grant will be used to purchase a
Pass Thru Warmer, a Double Stack Oven, and a Single Door Cooler
for the cafeteria.
6. The South Carolina Department of Education’s National School Lunch Program Equipment Assistance Grant Award for Clearwater Elementary School - FY19
(Mr. Traxler)
The School Food Service Department was awarded $16,000.00 for SCDE’s
National School Lunch Program Equipment Assistance Grant for
Clearwater Elementary School. The funds from this grant will be used
to purchase one Hot/Cold Serving Line for the cafeteria.
7. The South Carolina Department of Education’s National School Lunch Program
Equipment Assistance Grant Award for East Aiken School of the Arts - FY19
(Mr. Traxler)
The School Food Service Department was awarded $9,000.00 for SCDE”s
National School Lunch Program Equipment Assistance Grant for East Aiken
School of the Arts. The funds from this grant will be used to purchase a
Robo Coup and a Milkbox Cooler for the cafeteria.
8. The South Carolina Department of Education’s National School Lunch Program
Equipment Assistance Grant Award for Oakwood Windsor Elementary
School - FY19 (Mr. Traxler)
The School Food Service Department was awarded $12,300.00 for SCDE's
Naitonal School Lunch Program Equipment Assistance Grant for
Oakwood Windsor Elementary School. The funds from this grant
will be used to purchase two Pass Thru Coolers and one Single Door
Reach in Freezer for the cafeteria.
9. The South Carolina Department of Education’s National School Lunch Program Equipment Assistance Grant Award for Warrenville Elementary School – FY19 (Mr. Traxler)
The School Food Service Department was awarded $8,300.00 for SCDE's
National School Lunch Program Equipment Assistant Grant for Warrenville
Elementary School. The funds from this grant will be used to purchase
a Pass Thru Cooler and a Sixteen Crate Milk Box for the cafeteria.
10. Submission of the USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program Grant – FY20 (Mr. Traxler)
The USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program provides all children in
participating schools with a variety of free fresh fruit and vegetables
throughout the school day. It is an effective and creative way of
introducing fresh fruits and vegetables as healthy snack options.
The FFVP also encourages the education of families and partnerships
with members of the community as an overall way of increasing the
health and wellness of both students and those in the community in
which they live.
The School Food Service Department is requesting to submit the the $154,900.00 grant application for USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable
Program on behalf of the following schools:
- J.D. Lever Elementary $29,200.00
- Oakwood-Winsor Elementary $20,050.00
- North Aiken Elementary $23,050.00
- Clearwater Elementary $23,600.00
- Gloverville Elementary $16,850.00
- Ridge Spring-Monetta Elementary $20,700.00
- Greendale Elementary $21,450.00
11. Submission of the Fuel Up to Play 60 Grant by School Food Services
FY-20 (Mr. Traxler)
Fuel Up to Play 60 is an in-school nutrition and physical activity program
laughed by the National Dairy Council and NFL, in collaboation with the
USDA, to help encourage today's youth to lead healthier lives. School
Food Services is requesting to submit this $20,000.00 grant for snack carts,
refrigerated glass-front coolers and/or vending machines to encourage students
to choose healthy snack options for the following schools:
- Aiken Middle School

12. Women’s Study Club of Ridge Spring Donation to Ridge Spring-Monetta High
School - FY19 (Mrs. Glover)
Ridge Spring-Monetta High School was given a $2,000.00 donation from the General Federation of Women's Clubs of SC Progress Foundation in
conjunction with the Women's Study Club of Ridge Spring. The funds from this
donation will be used to purchase library books for the Ridge-Spring-Monetta
High School Media Center.
13. Textbook Adoptions for 2019-20 (Mr. Laurence)
The District examines and evaluates textbooks adopted by the State for use in
the classroom and recommends to the School Board those selected by
teacher committees for our district. Upon approval by the School Board
and funding by the State, schools may proceed to order those textbooks
from the State Textbook Depository.

1. Personnel Appointments (Mrs. Hart)
The certified and classified personnel presented have been screened by the
Human Resources Department, and interviewed, and/or approved by the
Principal or supervisor for each location.
2. Resolution to Issue Special Obligation Bonds (Mr. Traxler)
The Board approved a resolution authorizing the Superintendent to enter into
negotiations with energy services contractor ABM at its March 12, 2019,
meeting. As part of the authorization, the Board approved to finance an
amount not to exceed $42,282,240 to fund the project.
