            In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
 
 
 
5.         Construction Status Reports for the Leavelle McCampbell Middle School Project (Dr. Foster)
 
            In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
 
 
 
6.         Construction Status Reports for the Aiken High School Phase 2A Addition Project (Dr. Foster)
 
            In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, LS3P Associates LTD., and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
 
      
 
 
 
B.        CONSENT ITEMS:  The following items will be voted on as a group.  Individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken.
 
 
1.         Ratification of Expulsions (Dr. Alford)
 
            The School Board, according to the Code of Laws of South Carolina Sections 59-63-240, is authorizes to expel students from school.  Although the Board may receive recommendations for expulsion from others, it solely is empowered to take the final expulsion action.
 
 
 
2.         Out-of-District Transfer Requests (Mr. Laurence)
 
            Board Policy JFABC allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students.  The policy stipulates that when students transfer out of the District, “the School District of Aiken County shall assume no responsibility for tuition to the receiving district.”
 
 
 
3.         Submission of Grant Application by the Business Services Department for the South Carolina School Boards Insurance Trust Risk Control Grant – FY17 (Dr. Washington)
 
            The Business Services Department would like to submit a grant application for a $44,295.93 South Carolina School Boards Insurance Trust Risk Control Grant.  The non-competitive grants program provides funding for the one-time purchase of a product or service that supports a member district’s risk management objectives.
 
 
 
4.         Submission of the ACIG Distinguished Arts Program Grant – Aiken Middle School FY18 (Dr. Washington)
 
            Aiken Middle School is requesting to submit an $18,000 ACIG Distinguished Arts Program grant application.  Aiken Middle School will use the funding from this grant to facilitate elevating and expanding our fine arts programs including adding after-school programs for dance and chorus and the creation of Artistically Gifted and Talented Theatre and Instrument Music programs.  Funds will be used to purchase materials, resources, technology, and equipment for these programs.  Funds will also be used to pay for artists in residence and field trips for Artistically Gifted and Talented so that students may have access to a more culturally diverse fine arts education.
 
 
 
5.         Construction Bids for the Curb Appeal Landscaping Project Phase II (Dr. Foster)
 
            Bids were received for the Construction Bids for the Curb Appeal Landscaping Project Phase II on February 14, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. and publicly opened.  There will be a balance from Phase I Fund I that can be applied to account. There was 1 bidder with The Groves Nursery, Inc. submitting the lowest responsible and responsive base bid in the amount of $192,179.52.  The remaining costs will be charged to our Fund Five Paving/Erosion account.
 
 
 
6.         Proposed Calendar for 2017-2018 (Dr. Foster)
 
            The administration prepares a new calendar each year for Board approval.  Policy ICA provides guidance in the development of the school calendar and was last revised on January 12, 2016.

            The certified and classified personnel presented have been screened by the Personnel Services Department and interviewed and approved by the Principals and Executive Directors.
