- CONSENT ITEMS: The following items will be voted on as a group. Individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken.
- Roof Engineering Services for Roof Projects District-Wide for Aiken County Public Schools (Dr. Foster)
On July 18, 2018, the Selection Committee reviewed the information provided by these engineering firms interested in performing Roof Engineering work, per the Five Year Facility Improvement Plan or as needed. The committee was composed of the following:
- Kevin A. Chipman – Director of facilities Construction
- Charles Kip Gunter – Director of Maintenance Operations
- Dr. Tim Yarborough – Director of Operations
- Graniteville Elementary School Project Final Architectural Contract Documents (Dr. Foster)
The architects, Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) for this project have completed the final working drawings for construction of the New Area 3 Elementary School project and are prepared to present these final plans and construction budget under separate cover to the Board for approval
- Change Order Number 2 for the Aiken High School Phase 2A Main Building & Site (Dr. Foster)
Change Order Number Two for the credit amount of $2,141,852.67 in unused allowances and savings for this project
- Submission of the Fuel Up to Play 60 Grant by School Food Services – FY19 (Mr. Traxler)
Fuel Up to Play 60 is an in-school nutrition and physical activity program launched by the National Dairy Council and NFL, in collaboration with the USDA, to help encourage today’s youth to lead healthier lives. School Food Services is requesting to submit this $12,000.00 breakfast grant for breakfast carts at the following schools: North Augusta Middle School $4,000.00, North Augusta High School $4,000.00 and Midland Valley High School $4,000.00.

1. Personnel Appointments (Mrs. Hart)
The certified and classified personnel presented have been screened by the Personnel Services Department and interviewed and approved by the Principals and Executive Directors.
- Policy Changes Related to the Expiration of the Teacher and Employee Retention Incentive (TERI) Program (GCEC,GCF,GCFB,GDF) – Final Reading (Mr. Laurence)
The South Carolina Teacher and Employee Retention Incentive (TERI)
Program ended as of June 30, 2018. Many current policies refer to the TERI
Program.
- Make-up of School Days Lost Due to Hurricane Florence (Mr. Laurence)
Section 59-1-425(B) of the 1976 Code, as amended by Act 260 of 2006, reads: *(B) Notwithstanding any other provisions of law to the contrary, all school days missed because of snow, extreme weather conditions, or other disruptions requiring schools to close must be made up. All school districts shall designate annually at least three days within their school calendars to be used as make-up days in the event of these occurrences. If those designated days have been used or are no longer available, the local school board of trustees may lengthen the hours of school operations by no less than one hour per day for the total number of hours missed, operate schools on Saturday, or may waive up to three days. The SC Department of Education clarifies that the first three missed days must be made up. Days four through six may be waived by majority vote of the local school board or may be made up by extending the school day or on Saturdays. Days seven through nine may be waived by the State Board of Education.
Aiken County Public Schools has lost a total of two days due to weather-related closings. Those dates are September 11 and September 14, 2018.
- Request from an International Travel and Exchange Program seeking approval to place foreign exchange students in district schools (Mr. Laurence)
School Board Policy JFABB establishes guidelines for the admission of exchange students to the School District of Aiken County. Prior to a request for placement of a specific student, the “sponsoring organization must petition the Board for recognition/approval and to obtain the Board’s willingness to participate in the organization’s program of student exchange.”
