A. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: The following items are for information only and do not require Board action.
1. Design Update for Leavelle McCampbell Middle School and North Augusta High School (Dr. Foster)
Design Update for Leavelle McCampbell Middle School and North Augusta High School presented by Donnie Love with McMillan Pazdan Smith.
2. Financial Report, as of May 31, 2015 (Mr. Traxler)
The financial report of May 31, 2015 is submitted in the approved format.
3. Legislative Update (Mr. Liner)
B. CONSENT ITEMS: The following items will be voted on as a group. Individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken.
1. Out-of-District Transfer Requests (Dr. Stowe)
Board Policy JFABC allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students. The policy stipulates that when students transfer out of the District, “the School District of Aiken County shall assume no responsibility for tuition to the receiving district.”
2. South Carolina School Boards Association Dues (Dr. Everitt)
Over the past years, the Aiken County Board of Education has purchased membership in the South Carolina School Boards Association. In addition to membership benefits, the Association provides a policy update service and legal assistance fund. Also included is an annual policy maintenance and Internet subscription fee.
3. Neglected and Delinquent Application – FY16 (Mr. Laurence)
Public Law 107-110, Title I, Part D: Prevention and Intervention Programs for Children and Youth Who Are Neglected, Delinquent, or At-Risk is designated to support the operation of local educational agency programs that involve collaboration with locally operated correctional or residential facilities (1) to carry out high quality education programs to prepare children and youth for secondary school completion, training, employment, or further education; (2) to provide activities to facilitate the transition of such children and youth from the correctional program to further education or employment; and (3) to operate programs in local schools for children and youth returning from correctional facilities and programs which may serve at-risk children and youth. Aiken County Public School District’s allocation is $28,082.66.
4. Sunshine House Donation to Hammond Hill Elementary School – FY15 (Mr. Laurence)
Hammond Hill Elementary School was given a $1,385.29 donation from Sunshine House. The funds from this donation will be used to purchase general supplies and student incentives.
5. Lowe’s of North Augusta Donation to North Augusta Middle School – FY16 (Mr. Laurence)
Lowe’s of North Augusta would like to donate approximately $10,000 worth of goods and services to North Augusta Middle School. These goods and services will be used for establishing their greenhouse area, clearing and re-establishing their break area, and painting in the office.
6. Target Corporation Thanks A Billion Grant to New Ellenton Middle School – FY15 (Mr. Laurence)
New Ellenton Middle School was given a $1,400 Target Corporation Thanks A Billion grant. Funds from this grant award will be used to purchase LCD projectors.
7. Title III Allocations for English Language Acquisitions, FY16 (Mr. Laurence)
The Aiken County Public School District will submit a grant application for $115,649 to the State Department of Education through the U.S. Department of Education’s No Child Left Behind Act to supplement its Title III English Language Acquisition Program. The purpose of this English Language Acquisition Program is to assist state education agencies (SEAs) and local education agencies (LEAs) in providing supplementary educational services and offsetting costs for English as a second language students enrolled in elementary and secondary schools.
8. Sale of Surplus Computers to Lloyd Kennedy Charter School (Dr. Foster)
The Technology Department after recently updating some computers for the district has machines that are determined to be surplus.
9. Special Education Related Services Contract (Mr. Laurence)
The Department of Special Education routinely contracts with related service providers when unable to hire Aiken County Public School District personnel. The contracts include, but are not limited to; Transportation, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Pathology, Psycho-educational Testing, Applied Behavior Therapy, Orientation and Mobility for the Visually Impaired, Educational Interpreters, Consultation services, and Medicaid billing.
10. FY16 Application for Title II, Part A of No Child Left Behind (Mr. Laurence)
The State Department of Education has projected an allocation of $903,550.90 to Aiken County Public School District for Title II, Part A, “Preparing, Training, and Recruiting High Quality Teachers and Principals.” The purpose of Title II is to increase student academic achievement through strategies such as improving teacher and principal quality while also increasing the number of highly qualified teachers in the classroom and highly qualified principals and assistant principals in schools.
