A.             INFORMATIONAL ITEMS:  The following items are for information only and do not require Board action.  

1.         Financial Report, as of March 31, 2015 (Mr. Traxler) 

            The financial report of March 31, 2015 is submitted in the approved format. 

 

2.         Financial Report, as of April 30, 2015 (Mr. Traxler) 

            The financial report of April 30, 2015 is submitted in the approved format. 

 

3.         Legislative Update (Mr. Liner) 

 

B.             CONSENT ITEMS:  The following items will be voted on as a group.  Individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken. 

1.         Ratification of Expulsions (Dr. Everitt) 

            The School Board, according to the Code of Laws of South Carolina Sections 59-63-240, is authorizes to expel students from school.  Although the Board may receive recommendations for expulsion from others, it solely is empowered to take the final expulsion action. 

 

2.         Out-of-District Transfer Requests (Dr. Stowe) 

            Board Policy JFABC allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students.  The policy stipulates that when students transfer out of the District, “the School District of Aiken County shall assume no responsibility for tuition to the receiving district.” 

 

3.         Change Order Number 14 for the 2013 Chukker Creek Elementary Paving Project (Mr. Caver) 

            Change Order Number 14 consists of preparation and heavy duty paving of the Transportation lot at Midland Valley High bus parking area in the total amount of $75,436.00.

 

4.         South Carolina State Firefighters Association Grant to Aiken County Career and Technology Center – FY15 (Mr. Laurence) 

            Aiken County Career and Technology Center was given a $7,500 South Carolina State Firefighters Association grant.  Funds from this grant award will be used to purchase equipment and instructional supplies needed to train students in firefighting skills.  Completion of this training will also provide Firefighter One certification, which is the recognized national standard and credential. 

 

5.         GlaxoSmithKline Donation to Aiken County Career and Technology Center – FY15 (Mr. Laurence) 

            Aiken County Career and Technology Center received a $7,500 donation from GlaxcoSmithKline.  Funds from this donation will provide one $3,500 scholarship and ten $500 scholarships for students at the Career Center. 

 

6.         William D. Rowzee Donation to East Aiken School of the Arts – FY15 (Mr. Laurence) 

            East Aiken School of the Arts was given a $1,500 donation from William D. Rowzee.  The funds from this donation will be used to purchase and install ballet barres for the dance room. 

 

C.        INDIVIDUAL ITEMS: 

1.         Personnel Appointments (Dr. Hewett) 

            The certified and classified personnel presented have been screened by the Personnel Services Department and interviewed and approved by the Principal and Academic Officers. 

 

2.         Policy ADF – Wellness – [Additional Amendments] – Final Reading (Mr. Burkhalter) 

            In January 2015, the Board of Education approved a foundational “A” policy known by identifier ADF as the Wellness Policy. 

 

3.         Policy DKC – Expense Authorization/Reimbursement – Final Reading (Mr. Burkhalter) 

            The District’s Policy DKC provides guidance for reimbursements for Board and staff related to travel, meal reimbursements, lodging expenses, and mileage allowances.  As state or federal guidelines change, the Board updates its policy to be consistent therewith.

 

4.         Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)  - First Reading (Mr. Caver and Mr. Laurence) 

            With the use of the internet, intranet, e-mail and computers there is a need to review and revise the district’s Acceptable Use Policy (AUP).  The Instructional/Technology Committee has developed a policy that recognizes the many uses for technology in instruction.  The attached has been revised by the committee.
