A.             INFORMATIONAL ITEMS:  The following items are for information only and do not require Board action. 

 

1.         North Aiken Elementary Update (Mrs. Kitchings and Mrs. Sanders-Pee) 

 

2.         Construction Status Reports for the North Augusta High School Project  (Mr. Caver) 

In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review. 

 

                3.         Legislative Update (Mr. Liner)

B.             CONSENT ITEMS:  The following items will be voted on as a group.  Individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken. 

 

1.     Ratification of Expulsions (Dr. Everitt) 

    The School Board, according to the Code of Laws for South Carolina Sections 59-63-240, is authorized to expel students from school.  Although the Board may receive recommendations for expulsion from others, it solely is empowered to take the final expulsion action.

 

2.    Submission of 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant for Wagener-Salley High School (Mr. Laurence) 

      Wagener-Salley High School would like to submit an application to the SC Department of Education in the amount of $53,479 for the 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant. The purpose of this grant is to (1) provide opportunities for academic enrichment, including providing tutorial services to help students in high-poverty areas and those who attend low-performing schools meet state and local student performance standards in core academic subjects such as reading, math, and science; (2) offer students a broad array of additional services, programs, and activities, such as youth development activities; drug and violence prevention programs; counseling programs; art, music, and recreation programs; technology education programs; and character education programs, that are designed to reinforce and complement the regular academic program of participating students; and (3) offer families of students served by community learning centers opportunities for literacy and related educational development. 

 

3.   South Carolina Arts Commission ABC Arts in Education Grant – East Aiken School of the Arts – FY15 (Mr. Laurence) 

East Aiken School of the Arts has been awarded a $7,350 grant from the South Carolina Arts Commission.  This is year three of a three year grant, pending availability of funds.  Funds from this grant will be used to purchase art supplies and materials for arts integrated performances and lessons.

 

4.   Aiken County Association for Special Citizens, Inc. Donation to North Augusta Elementary School – FY15 (Mr. Laurence) 

North Augusta Elementary School was given a $1,050 donation from the Aiken County Association For Special Citizens, Inc.  Funds from this donation will be used to purchase iPads and iPad covers. 

 

5.     Proposed 2015-2016 Budget Calendar (Mr. Traxler) 

Board Policy DBG requires that the Aiken County Board of Education adopt a budget calendar by November 1 each year. 

 

6.    Request from Aiken County Career and Technology Center to Accept a                Donation Made to the Machine Tool Department (Dr. Yarborough) 

The Machine Tool Department would like to accept a donation from two local machinists, Mr. Kenny Jarrett and Mr. Brian Lybrand, totaling $2200,   in exchange for the removal of two lathes valued at $800 and a third lathe valued at $600.  These lathes have been deemed unsafe for student use  and are labeled as surplus, however, these items exceed the weight limits allowed for maintenance removal.

The certified and classified personnel presented have been screened by the Personnel Services Department and interviewed and approved by the Principal and the Academic Officers.
