A. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: The following items are for information only and do not require Board action.

1. Adult Education Update (Mr. Keating)

2. Construction Status Reports for the Ridge Sprint-Monetta High Addition Project (Mr. Caver)

In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, A.L.R. Architecture, PC and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.

B. CONSENT ITEMS: The following items will be voted on as a group. Individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken.

1. Ratification of Expulsions (Dr. Everitt)

The School Board, according to the Code of Laws for South Carolina Sections 59-63-240, is authorized to expel students from school. Although the Board may receive recommendations for expulsion from others, it solely is empowered to take the final expulsion action.

2. Submission of the Education and Economic Development Act (EEDA) AT-Risk Student Innovative Competitive Grant for Midland Valley High School (Mr. Laurence)

Midland Valley High School would like to submit an application for an EEDA At-Risk Student Innovative Competitive Grant through the SC State Department of Education. Approximately 30 grants will be awarded state-wide to assist schools with developing programs to address academic and career development needs of students with proven academic deficiencies. The funds from this grant would be used to provide an afterschool program including transportation and a mentoring program. Maximum grant awards for each of the three years are $75,000, $127,500, and $90,000. Continuation of grant awards each year is contingent upon State funding and meeting project requirements.

3. Oakwood-Windsor Elementary Playground Surfacing Project (Mr. Caver)

Bids were received for the Oakwood-Windsor Elementary Playground Surfacing Project on November 21, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. and publicly opened. Bids were received from 3 bidders with Bliss Products & Services submitting the lowest bid of $76,147.31. Base bid includes installation of rubber surfacing in the kindergarten playground and installation of wood chip surfacing around the event stations in the large playground. The District-Wide Playground account has adequate funds for this project. The design, printing, advertising and 5% contingency amounts to $11,000.00. Total project cost for this project is $87,148.00.
