  1. Personnel Appointments (Mrs. Hart)
 
The certified and classified personnel presented have been screened by the Human Resources Department and interviewed, and/or approved by the Principal or Supervisor for each location.
 
  1. Revision of the following policy:  Policy KCAAA Student-Community Relations, Second Reading (Dr. Minolfo)
 
Aiken County Public School District offers the opportunity for blood donation organizations to visit schools to provide eligible students and adults the opportunity to donate blood.
 
  1. Students of Aiken Re-engaged (SOAR) Proposal for School Year 2024-2025 (Mr. Postell)
 
The program will combine resources of multiple programs into four main components to align services more efficiently and effectively for student who may otherwise not be engaged in their education in Aiken County Public School District and who may drop out, be expelled, or otherwise attend school elsewhere.
 
 
 
  1. CONSENT ITEMS:   The following items will be voted on as a group, individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken.

 
 
  1. Ratification of Expulsions (Mr. Laurence)
 
The School Board, according to the Code of Laws for South Carolina Section
 59-63-240, is authorized to expel students from school. Although the Board may receive recommendations for expulsion from others, it solely is empowered to take the final expulsion action.
 
  1. Appointment to Represent ACPSD for First Steps Aiken County Partnership Board (Mr. Laurence)
 
On June 19, 2023, the First Steps Reorganization Act; ACT No. 81. Went into effect upon Governor’s McMaster’s signature. A section of this law amended Section 59-152-80 of the S.C. Code outlines the structure of First Steps local partnership board.
 
  1. Proposed Schedule of School Board Meetings 2024-2025 (Mr. Laurence)
 
The School Board has historically scheduled its regular sessions on the second and fourth Tuesday evenings of the month. Executive sessions have been held as needed, on these same dates.
 
 
  1. Out-of-District Transfer Requests – Transfers Out 2023-2024 (Dr. Minolfo)
 
Board Policy JFABC allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students. The policy stipulates that when students transfer out of the District, “the School District of Aiken County shall assume no responsibility for tuition to the receiving district.”

Board Policy JFAB allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students. The policy stipulates that nonresident students transfer into the District “the parent/legal guardian must assume responsibility for transportation. The Board will hold nonresident students to the behavioral and academic requirements set out in policy JFAA admission of resident students. The district may charge tuition to nonresident students seeking to enroll in district schools.”
 
 
  1. Textbook Adoptions for 2024-2025 (Dr. Edwards & Ms. Dove)
 
The District examines and evaluates textbooks adopted by the State for use in the classroom and recommends to the School Board those selected by teacher committees for our district. Upon approval by the School Board and funding by the State schools may proceed to order those textbooks from the State Textbook Depository.
 
  1. Submission of the S. C. Department of Education High-Intensity Tutoring Grant Application – Aiken County Public School District - FY25 (Dr. Edwards)
South Carolina Proviso 1A.72 (High-Intensity Tutoring) authorized the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) to provide funds to school districts and community partners to pilot academic support programs providing high-dosage, low-ratio tutoring to students in mathematics and reading by compensated tutors. Districts may apply to participate in the pilot during the 2024-2025 school year. 
 
Early literacy intervention was a top priority for the School Board for the District’s 2024-2025 budget.  Aiken County Public School District is requesting approval to submit a grant application for the SCDE High-Intensity Tutoring Grant for up to $1.6 million dollars to assist in providing district-wide implementation of early literary intervention for grades K-2.
 
 
  1. Rebecca and Danny Jewell Donation to Mossy Creek Elementary School – FY24 (Dr. Edwards)
 
Mossy Creek Elementary School has received a $5,0000.00 donation from Rebecca and Danny Jewell. The funds are designated to support the school’s instructional program and will be used to purchase materials and supplies to support the instructional program and for purchase services to help with copier and RISO costs.
 
 
  1. Construction bids for Kennedy Middle and Schofield Middle Entrance Modifications (Dr. Murphy)
 
Bids were received for the Kennedy Middle and Schofield Middle Entrance Modifications on March 12, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. and publicly opened.
