B.             CONSENT ITEMS:  The following items will be voted on as a group.  Individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken. 

 1.         South Carolina Arts Commission ABC Arts in Education Grant – East Aiken School of the Arts – FY16 (Mr. Laurence) 

            East Aiken School of the Arts has been awarded a $12,054 grant from the South Carolina Arts Commission.  Funds from this grant will be used to purchase art supplies and materials for arts integrated performance and lessons. 

 

2.         Charles Wesley United Methodist Church Donation to East Aiken School of the Arts – FY16 (Mr. Laurence) 

            East Aiken School of the Arts was given a $4,350 donation from Charles Wesley United Methodist Church.  The funds from this donation will be used for tables, shelving, and other furniture items for the students. 

 

3.       Sunshine House Donation to Chukker Creek Elementary School – FY16 (Mr. Laurence) 

            Chukker Creek Elementary School was given a $2,027.78 donation from Sunshine House.  The funds from this donation will be used to purchase math materials for all grade levels.

 

 4.         Submission of Grant Application by the Business Services Department for the South Carolina School Boards Insurance Trust Risk Control Grant – FY16 (Mr. Laurence)  - This item was pulled from the agenda.

          

 

 5.         Aiken County Gifted and Talented Academic/Artistic Plan (Mr. Laurence) 

            The Office of Federal Programs has completed the annual update of the Gifted and Talented Academic and Artistic Plan as required by the South Carolina Department of Education.  This plan describes the curriculum and instructional models that are offered in the district’s schools.  The artistic component focuses on increasing student interest and participation, with anticipated annual increases.  The plan is updated annually and submitted to the South Carolina Department of Education with any revisions and updates. 

 

 6.         Local School Board Elective Courses for 2015-2016 (Cabinet approval on 8/18/15) (Mr. Laurence) 

             Middle Schools and High Schools submit Local School Board Elective Course Forms throughout the school year.  The courses are approved at the Cabinet Level and the new courses are submitted to the Board for final approval. 

 

 7.         Funding Flexibility for the Quarter Ending September 30, 2015 (Mr. Traxler) 

            Under Joint Resolutions H. 4905, H. 4595 and Provisos 1.28, 1.33 and 1A.15 for Fiscal Year 2015-2016, all school districts and special schools of this State may transfer and expend funds “to ensure the delivery of academic and arts instruction to students.”  Among the requirements, each district’s board and superintendent must certify the specific flexibility actions taken.  The certification must be in writing, signed by the board chairman and superintendent, and delivered electronically to the State Superintendent of Education.  An electronic copy must be sent to the SC Department of Education which will subsequently forward the information to the Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, the Chairman of the Senate Education Committee, the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, and the Chairman of the House Education and Public Works Committee.
