B. CONSENT ITEMS: The following items will be voted on as a group. Individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken.
1. Out-of-District Transfer Requests (Dr. Stowe)
Board Policy JFABC allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students. The policy stipulates that when students transfer out of the District, “the School District of Aiken County shall assume no responsibility for tuition to the receiving district.”
2. Mechanical Contractors Association of South Carolina Grant to South Aiken High School – FY16 (Mr. Laurence)
South Aiken High School was given a $1,500 Mechanical Contractors Association of South Carolina grant. Funds from this grant award will be used to purchase auto darkening welding shields needed for the NCCER Welding Program.
3. Sale of Surplus Computers to Great Creations Child Development Center (Dr. Foster)
The Technology Department after recently updating some computers for the district has machines that are determined to be surplus.
4. Renewal of Emergency Calling System (Dr. Foster)
Schools and the district have been using an emergency and outreach calling system, BlackBoard Connect, since 2006. In recent years, the district has used and continues to use the system to broadcast emergency school closings. In addition, the majority of schools use the system for communication to parents and students regarding school events and activities on a regular basis.
5. Universal Screener for Literacy (Mr. Laurence)
Aiken County Public Schools’ Purpose and Direction includes reading achievement at all grade levels as an area of special academic emphasis. To inform instructional decisions in line with that emphasis, a screening instrument is needed that provides a baseline of students’ reading proficiency, that includes growth measures over the course of instruction, that identifies students for targeted intervention, and allows the district to set rigorous reading achievement goals.
C. INDIVIDUAL ITEMS:
1. Personnel Appointments (Dr. Hewett)
The certified and classified personnel presented have been screened by the Personnel Services Department and interviewed and approved by the Principal and Academic Officers.
2. Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) – Final Reading (Dr. Foster)
With the use of internet, intranet, e-mail and computers there is a need to review and revise the District’s Acceptable Use Policy (AUP).
