B.             CONSENT ITEMS: The following items will be voted on as a group. Individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken.
 
 
 1.              Ratification of Expulsions (Dr. Everitt)
 
The School Board, according to the Code of Laws for South Carolina Sections 59-63-240, is authorized to expel students from school. Although the Board may receive recommendations for expulsion from others, it solely is empowered to take the final expulsion action.
 
 
 2.              Out-of-District Transfer Requests (Dr. Stowe)
 
Board Policy JFABC allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students. The policy stipulates that when students transfer out of the District, “the School District of Aiken County shall assume no responsibility for tuition to the receiving district.”
 
 
 3.              Submission of SC State Department of Education Arts Curricular Innovation Grant Application by East Aiken School of the Arts – FY15 (Mr. Laurence)
 
East Aiken School of the Arts would like to submit an application to the SC State Department of Education for the Arts Curricular Innovation grant in the amount of $21,000. This is year three of a three year art grant to provide a comprehensive and sequential arts education.
 
 
 4.              2014-2015 Title I Support Funds (Mr. Laurence)
 
According to the Elementary and Secondary Act Waiver approved in July of 2012, schools that receive a D or F on the state report card are classified as Title I Support Schools and must develop a plan to address specific strategies to improve academic performance. The following nine schools were given allocations for this purpose, totaling $529,167 – Busbee Corbett Elementary/Middle, Byrd Elementary, Clearwater Elementary, LBC Middle, Leavelle McCampbell Middle, Midland Valley Preparatory Charter, Mossy Creek Elementary, Oakwood-Windsor Elementary, and Redcliffe Elementary.
 
  
 5.              WJBF-Augusta Science Project 2014 Grant to Midland Valley High School and Schofield Middle School – FY14 (Mr. Laurence)
 
Midland Valley High School was given a $1,000 Science Project 2014 Grant from WJBF-Augusta. The funds from this grant will be used for items for the Science Olympiad team and for transportation to and from events.
 
Schofield Middle School was given a $500 Science Project 2014 Grant from WJBF-Augusta. The funds from this grant will be used for STEM materials and STEM related travel and field trips.
 
  
 6.              GlaxoSmithKline Donation to Aiken County Career and Technology Center – FY14 (Mr. Laurence)
 
Aiken County Career and Technology Center received a $7,500 donation from GlaxoSmithKline. Funds from this donation will provide one $2,500 scholarship and ten $500 scholarships for students at the Career Center.
 
  
 7.              Change Order Number 2 for the Ridge Spring-Monetta High School (Mr. Caver)
 
Change Order Number 2: Add canopy needed for new wing to existing school at gym in the amount of $132,777.00.
 
  
 8.              Change Order Number 1 for the Installation of Carpet at Gloverville Elementary, New Ellenton Middle & Silver Bluff High School (Remaining Areas) (Mr. Caver)
 
Change Order Number 1 includes the following:
 
·       Replace carpet at hallway entrance @ East Aiken           $ 6,559.00
·       Replace carpet in the library . . . . @ East Aiken             $ 18,113.00
·       Replace carpet in hallways @ East Aiken . . . . . .            $ 20,321.00
·       Purchase hot water extractor for cleaning carpet @

·       Replace carpet in NJROTC office @

                               Project contingency is adequate to cover this amount.
   
 
 9.              Wagener-Salley High School’s Auditorium Renovations & Gloverville Elementary School’s Breezeway Addition (Mr. Caver)
 
Bids will be received for the Wagener-Salley High School’s Auditorium Renovations & Gloverville Elementary School’s Breezeway Addition on June 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. and publicly opened. The budget for both projects is $900,000.00.   Due to time constraints and the need to start, the administration would like to move forward with the award to the low bidder, if the bids come in under budget.
  
 
  10.           RSM Elementary, University of South Carolina-Aiken, and Aiken Writing Project Grant Partnership – FY15 (Mr. Laurence)
 
RSM Elementary School, in partnership with University of South Carolina-Aiken and Aiken Writing Project, will participate in a grant opportunity to develop and implement Family Academic Literacy Programs for K-3 English language learners and their families. Two team members from RSM Elementary School and two team members from University of South Carolina-Aiken will attend the Summer Institute in Memphis, Tennessee on July 21-26, 2014.
