A.             INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: The following items are for information only and do not require Board action.
 
 
 1.              Status Reports for the North Augusta High School Project (Mr. Caver)
 
In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.
 
 
 
 2.              Construction Status Reports for the Ridge Spring-Monetta High Addition Project (Mr. Caver)
 
In an effort to keep the Board current on the status and budget of this school construction project, the Architects for this project, A.L.R. Architecture, PC and the Administration prepare a monthly status report for the Board’s review.

B.             CONSENT ITEMS: The following items will be voted on as a group. Individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken.
 
 
 1.              Ratification of Expulsions (Dr. Everitt)
 
The School Board, according to the Code of Laws for South Carolina Sections 59-63-240, is authorized to expel students from school. Although the Board may receive recommendations for expulsion from others, it solely is empowered to take the final expulsion action.
 
 
 
 2.              Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, LLC Donations to Leavelle McCampbell Middle School – FY14 (Mr. Laurence)
 
Leavelle McCampbell Middle School was given a $5,000 donation from Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, LLC. The funds from this donation will be used to purchase new athletic equipment and football uniforms.
 
  
 
 3.              Savannah River Remediation, LLC Grant to Greendale Elementary (Mr. Laurence)
 
Greendale Elementary School was given a $1,750 grant from Savannah River Remediation, LLC. Funds from this grant will be used to purchase FOSS Kits that infuse STEM into 5k and 1st grade classrooms.
 
 
  
 4.              John Powell and Melinda Lerner Donation to East Aiken School of the Arts – FY14 (Mr. Laurence)
 
East Aiken School of the Arts was given a $10,000 donation from John Powell and Melinda Lerner. The funds from this donation will be used to hire a dance artist to work with third through fifth grade students and for orchestra and guitar scholarships for students.
 
 
 
                5.              Construction Bids for the 2014 Paving Project at Silver Bluff High and Chukker Creek Elementary (Mr. Caver)
 
Bids were received for the 2014 Paving Project; Silver Bluff High and Chukker Creek Elementary on June 22, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. and publicly opened. Bids were received from 5 bidders with Pave-Way of Augusta submitting the lowest bid of $112,352.80. Base bid includes repaving the staff and senior lots in front at Silver Bluff High and Alternate #1 ($138,800.00) is for repaving Bulldog Drive, bus parking lot and paving the underclassmen lot. The budget for the District-Wide Paving is $284,000.00. The design, printing, advertising and 5% contingency amounts to $32,847.20. Total project cost for the 2014 Paving Project is $284,000.00. 
 
 
  
 6.              2014-2015 School Food Service Meal Fees (Mr. Traxler)
 
Section 205, “Equity in School Meal Pricing”, of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, P.L. 111-296, requires schools to raise school meal prices to be more in line with the Federal reimbursement rates. The USDA created the paid lunch equity (PLE) tool to determine whether pricing requirements are being met and, if not met, the increase required to meet pricing requirements.
 
   
 
 7.              Out-of-District Transfer Requests (Dr. Stowe)
 
Board Policy JFABC allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students. The policy stipulates that when students transfer out of the District, “the School District of Aiken County shall assume no responsibility for tuition to the receiving district.”
 
 
 
 8.              Proposed Date Change on 2014-2015 School Calendar (Mr. Caver)
 
The administration prepares a new calendar each year for Board approval. Policy ICA provides guidance in the development of the school calendar and was last revised on March 9, 2004. The 2014-2015 School Calendar was approved by the Board on December 10, 2013.
 
 
 
C.        INDIVIDUAL ITEMS:
 
 
   1.         Personnel Appointments (Dr. Hewett)
 
The certified and classified personnel presented have been screened by the Personnel Services Department and interviewed and approved by the Principal and the Academic Officers.
 
 
 
                2.              Re-employment of Non-Instructional Personnel for 2014-2015 School Year (Dr. Hewett)
 
In past years, only non-instructional personnel not being recommended for re-employment were presented to the Board; all other personnel under contract for the previous school year were recommended for re-employment.
 
 
 
  3.              Annual Revisions to the Code of Student Conduct – Second Reading (Mr.
Burkhalter)
 
The Code of Student Conduct was first promulgated by the Board of Education in 1971. Extensive revisions were approved by the Board in 1981, 1985, and again in 1993. Since then, ongoing amendments are made annually, as necessary. Recommendations for revisions to the Code of Student Conduct for 2014-2015 have been solicited from administrators, principals, legal counsel, and other departments.
