2. Verizon iLearn@Clearwater Grant Application, FY13 (Mr. Laurence)
Clearwater Elementary School plans to submit an application to the Verizon Foundation in the amount of $14,147.27 for the iLearn@Clearwater grant. If awarded, the grant will be used to provide ipads for the students at Clearwater Elementary. The ipads will expose as many students as possible to technology as an everyday tool. They also plan to use interactive applications to engage students in learning material related to common core and state academic standards in an effort to increase test scores.
3. Classroom Rentals for Supplemental Educational Services (SES) (Mr. Laurence)
Under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) waiver, districts that have schools classified as Priority or Focus must offer Supplemental Educational Services (SES), or afterschool tutoring, to eligible students. In Priority schools, all students must be offered services; in Focus schools, only students not meeting state standards or students in a subgroup where a significant achievement gap was noted must be offered services. Under the ESEA waiver, districts must use State criteria to choose ten providers. These providers offer services online, in the home, at a faith-based organization, or in the schools. Providers that offer services using our facilities must pay a rental fee.
4. Request for Approval for Home Instruction (Dr. Hewett)
The School Board, according to the Code of Laws for South Carolina, Section 59-65-40, is authorized to approve home schooling for parents not opting for approval by the South Carolina Association of Independent Home Schools.
