A. INDIVIDUAL ITEMS: The following items will be voted on individually.
1. Personnel Appointments (Ms. Riley)
The administrative, certified and classified personnel presented have been screened by the Human Resources Department, and interviewed, and/or approved by the Principal or supervisor for each location.
2. Revision of the following policy: Policy AAA: Legal Status of Area Advisory Councils, Second Reading (Mrs. Meek)
Revising and updating language under local funds to reflect the advisory capacity of the council. Additional updates and revisions to the language under transfer appeals to reflect the discontinuance of appeals based on school capacity.
3. Revision of the following policy: Policy GCJ: Professional Staff Probation, Second Reading (Mrs. Meek)
This policy’s components are covered in other staff policies and has no legal basis.
4. Board Member Cameron Nuessle Nomination for SCSBA Regional Director (Mr. Nuessle)
5. 2026 – 2027 Budget – Second/Final Reading (Mr. Traxler)
In its 2026 – 2027 budget calendar, the Board scheduled presentations of the First Reading of the budget for April 21, 2026, and the Second & Final Reading for May 26, 2026. A budget hearing was held during the May 12, 2026, Board Meeting.
B. CONSENT ITEMS: The following items will be voted on as a group; individual items may be discussed prior to a vote being taken.
1. Release from ACPSD Requests 26-27 SY (Mrs. Meek)
Board Policy JFABC allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students. The policy stipulates that when students transfer out of the District, “the School District of Aiken County shall assume no responsibility for tuition to the receiving district.”
2. Non-Resident Transfer Requests 26-27 SY (Mrs. Meek)
Board Policy JFAB allows the Aiken County Board of Education to arrange with other school districts for the interchange of students. The policy stipulates that nonresident students transfer into the District “the parent/legal guardian must assume responsibility for transportation. The Board will hold non-resident students to the behavioral and academic requirements set out in Policy JFAA, admission of resident students. The district may charge tuition to nonresident students seeking to enroll in district schools.”
3. Request to Admit Foreign Exchange Students 26-27 SY (Mrs. Meek)
School Board Policy JFABB establishes guidelines for the admission of exchange students to the high schools in the School District of Aiken County.
4. Carhill Scholarship for the Visual and Performing Arts Donation to Silver Bluff High School – FY26 (Dr. Edwards)
Silver Bluff High School has received a $1,295.00 donation from the Carhill Scholarship for the Visual and Performing Arts. The funds are to be used to help cover the cost of student instrument rentals. These funds will be used to satisfy the current outstanding instrument rental fee balances.
5. Submission of the Capturing Kids’ Hearts (CKH) Foundation Grant Application by Aiken County Public School District – FY27 (Dr. Edwards)
The Instructional Services Division of the Aiken County Public School District is requesting to submit a grant application in the amount of $31,500.00 to the Capturing Kids’ Hearts Foundation to support the district’s implementation of the Capturing Kids’ Hearts program. If awarded, the grant would provide school-specific support for CKH implementation, as well as District-Premium support with additional professional development and on-site support.
6. Submission of the TD Charitable Foundation Regional Grant Application by Aiken County Public School District – FY27 (Dr. Edwards)
The Instructional Services Division of the Aiken County Public School District is requesting to submit a grant application in the amount of $128,964.00 to the TD Charitable Foundation to support the district’s implementation of the Leader in Me program in six schools. If awarded, the grant funds would be used to cover program expenses such as membership fees, curriculum, supplies, training, coaching and support. The schools supported by this grant would include Byrd Elementary, Chukker Creek Elementary, Mossy Creek Elementary, North Augusta Elementary, A.L. Corbett Middle, and Wagener Salley High School.
7. Design Development Drawings/Budget and Construction Documents for Gloverville Elementary School Renovations and Improvements (Dr. Yarborough)
The administration, in conjunction with the architectural firm Method Works (MW), has completed the Design Development and Construction Documents for the Gloverville Elementary School renovations and improvements. The current construction budget is $1,105,508. The overall budget includes design, FFE, and construction contingency for a total of $1,565,349. The scope of work would be building a secure vestibule, installing new windows, adding air conditioning to the hallways, extending the canopy at the car loop, and replacing student desks at Gloverville Elementary School using 8% funds.
C. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: The following items are for information only and do not require Board Action.
1. Monthly Financial Report for the Period Ended March 31, 2026 (Mr. Traxler)
The Business Services Department submits financials for Board review, consideration, and acceptance.
2. Annual Update on 2024 1% Sales Tax Collections (Mr. Traxler)
Voters renewed the Education Capital Improvement Sales & Use Tax during the November 2024 election. Collection of the “2024 1%” sales tax commenced on March 1, 2025, immediately following the close of the previous tax that was approved during the November 2014 election.
3. Local School Board Courses for 2026-2027 Presentation (Dr. Edwards)
The School Board must approve locally designed courses annually.
